a simple tip :: 10 uses for plastic easter eggs

Are you finding yourself cleaning up a slew of empty Easter candy wrappers, decorative grass, and other basket goodies today? Me, too! And if your house is anything like ours, you probably have a pile of empty plastic Easter eggs sitting on your countertop. So, what do you do with those plastic eggs? We went on an “Egg Hunt” of our own today to find some of the best ways to reuse those plastic Easter eggs instead of just tossing them in the trash!

Learning
1. Math Eggs :: Using a Sharpie marker, write a number on one half of the egg. On the other half of the egg, create sets of dots. Let your preschooler twist the egg halves until they match the number with the correct dot set. For older kids, write a variety of math problems on the eggs (see image below). Create addition, subtraction, multiplication or division eggs! (idea via Learning Ideas – Grades K-8 and Room Mom 101)

2. Word Eggs :: Create rhyming words with the beginning letter(s) on one half and the ending letters on the other half of the egg. (via Parents.com)

3. Shakers & Maracas :: Here is a great “how-to” from Kiwi Crate using plastic eggs, rice/beans, plastic spoons, and tape. Don’t have plastic spoons? Skip the spoons and create shakers!

4. Egg Pets & Glow Bugs :: Grab those plastic Easter eggs and your craft supplies and begin creating everything from a pig to a skunk to an owl! Add some flameless LED tea lights and you can even make these adorable bugs that actually light up!!! (ideas via Spoonful.com and Apartment Therapy)

5. Garden Snake :: String a bunch of plastic egg tops together to make this super cute egg snake! Then do the same with the other half of your eggs to create two! They would be fun and colorful additions to your flower garden this Spring! (via Sewing and Crafting with Sarah)

6. Tea cups :: Tea party anyone? Create your own playtime tea cups with plastic eggs, big buttons, and ribbon! (via My Name is Momma)

7. Easter Wreaths & Decor :: Get a jump start on next year’s Easter decorations with a cute Easter egg wreath, glitter eggs for a centerpiece, or Spring Strings. (via Frills Fluff and Trucks, Martha Stewart, and Parents.com)

8.  Bug Mobile :: This Bug Mobile is actually made using egg cartons but you could just as easily make the bugs using plastic easter eggs! What a colorful and whimsical decoration for a nursery or play room! (via The Crafty Cow)
