the tesla of carpet cleaners :: Hoover SmartWash PET carpet cleaner :: giveaway

disclaimer giveaway

We are on day 90 something now where we’ve had 5 bodies in our tiny house making messes everywhere. We started out the sheltering at home strong with lots of random cleaning projects. Now I feel like I’m just barely staying ahead of removing the dirt being tracked around.

What’s in the Hoover Box?

Annabelle’s ears and the furry black cat is your hint.
What's in the Hoover Box?

I find it quite satisfying to have clean carpets and floors. It’s very likely the hardest thing to keep clean right now with pets and people in and out of the backyard multiple times a day. Plus, there’s that extra desire to keep things sanitary with the coronavirus concerns. The CDC recommends that to clean carpeted floor, rugs and drapes, consumers should “clean the surface using soap and water or with cleaners appropriate for use on these surfaces.” Hoover offers cleaning solutions formulated to remove dirt, grime and pet messes and leave floors smelling fresh.

While I’m loving our new floors and it’s still fun to keep them fresh and clean, we still have our throw rugs and bedroom carpets that desperately needed attention.

So what is in the box? Hoover Petsmart

The Tesla of carpet cleaners!

SmartWash PET Complete Automatic Carpet Cleaner

Hoover AccessoriesI have been a long time customer of the Hoover carpet cleaner. My very first post on The Simple Moms dates back to January 2012 when I reviewed my Hoover Steamvac carpet cleaner. It was such a great machine and it’s still working to this day. Hoover is part of the family around here, it even shows up in old memories.

2011 Hoover MemoryHaving a carpet cleaner is a wonderful investment and I’ve never once paid a company to do the job for me. It pays for itself if you can clean your own carpets and I can speak for Hoover’s good quality and longevity. I’ve had a Hoover Carpet Cleaner since 2009.

Easy to Use

The SmartWash PET Complete Automatic Carpet Cleaner blew me away with all the things they thought of to make this model above and beyond amazing. If you have a pet…or CHILDREN…you know the filth that shows up on your carpets. I first want to establish that you need a carpet cleaner. Next I want you know that you need THIS carpet cleaner. Hoover engineers thought of everything, even a bag with a handy hook to store the hoses.

Here are a few things I appreciated when I used this cleaner:

  • Easy to assemble and useeasy to clean parts
  • Lighter weight then most carpet cleaners
  • Glides smoothly and effortlessly
  • Cleans tough stains with powerful scrubbers and deep suction
  • Clever storage bag with a hook for the hoses and accessories
  • Anti-microbial brushes that resist pet odor
  • Easy access to brushes to clean and remove pet hair buildup
  • Well designed tanks and bottles that clip in and out simply
  • Fast drying with the power of heat force
  • Very clever handle that converts to a pretreating wand for chasing down tough spots. Blast the stains with the battery powered spot chaser gun.
  • Separate water and solution containers so you don’t have waste if you don’t use all the cleaner, simply pour it back in the bottle.

spot chaser wandDoes this feature impress you like it did me? You sure are looking at the handle of the carpet cleaner. It pops out and allows you to spray and pre-treat the really tough spots you’re about to tackle. The kids were begging to help clean!

pre treat spot chaser wandLast year we got a cat. Our cute little Smokey has made an appearance or two in posts. He’s been a delight, but having a pet means you may find yourself cleaning up an accident or two. We’ve been very lucky, he’s only had one accident in the house and it was after he was neutered and was coming off the anesthesia. He got confused and went to the bathroom in the corner of our closet. The smell was dreadful! I tried all the remedies, but ultimately you have to get the pad underneath clean and you need a strong carpet washer to do the job right. The SmartWash Pet Cleaner saved the day.
neutralize pet smellsOne last tip regarding ways you can use a carpet cleaner…don’t forget about the carpet in your car. Have you had a disastrous trip to the vet that resulted in a mess? Of course if you have kids you’ve had all kinds of gross things to deal with in the car. I like to use the attachment and hose to clean the carpets and upholstery in our car. My 2003 Corolla has spot free mats and upholstery because I’ve been able to keep up on stains as they occur. It’s very rewarding for me to take care of something and make it last longer. Whether I’m cleaning our old cars or our carpets, it feels great to keep things nice.

clean your car tooThere’s a reward if you made it to the end of this post. I know I threw a lot of information at you, but I share because I care about helping others make an informed decision about a big purchase. The mess of having 2 cats and a dog. One of the cats “Todd” is senior and makes mistakes from time to time. Added to this is an artistic 8-year old girl who also who likes chalk and clay and slime plus”borrows her mom’s make-up and nail polish”. Being 8. she also doesn’t think to look for dog droppings in the back yard. Needless to say we have run the gamut of stains and messes.

Our dog got ate a small animal (I only know this because when she came in she went to her kennel and chewed it up, I went to investigate but she wouldn’t spit it out.) it was completely out of character for her. She is a smallish docile thing, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Anyways, it did not agree with her and she had stomach problems all over the main floor of the house. It was a disaster, but to my knowledge she hasn’t done the same thing again.

We moved into a house with dogs. The previous owners were foreign nationals and didn’t really get the whole dog ownership thing. They ran a restaraunt and were never home. The dogs were neglected and the house was one giant potty. We stripped the old carpet, removed EVERY staple and nail. Then we rolled the subfloor with Nature’s Miracle until it stopped reeking. Then I sealed it 3 times with a water based sealer, sniff testing after each coat. I finished it off with BinZinser primer oil based. This is the stuff they use for smoke damage (didn’t use it for the initial coats as it was $185 for 5 gallons and the dry subfloor would have soaked it up….used the cheap stuff first) So we have stunning white subfloors in the rooms we have carpet it. I spent over $1000 on pet product and primers.

My Chihuahua Ice is house trained and “accidents” are very rare. He knows not to poop in the house. One day I was returning home from an afternoon out. I got home and Ice greeted me. But then Ice started to vomit. Two big puddles on the living room carpet, The stench gave it away…the dog had obviously done a vast amount of stools and, to get rid of the evidence, ate it!!! I have never had to clean up anything as bad as the puddles of puke/poo in my life and just remembering that day makes my skin crawl.….I’m off for a shower!

My biggest tackle was grape juice when my kids where younger. Now that I have grand kids I forget just how gross little boys can be. lol. Now my biggest tackle is getting the smell of pee out of my rug.

Puke , pee , and bloody Mary where probably the hardest. This machine looks awesome. I have one right now but the brush doesn’t have easy access! I took it apart 6 months ago and can’t get it together right. My carpets are in desperate need of a cleaning.

My biggest mess was when my husband took my German Shepherd outside to do his business while raining, and when he came back to the door he didn’t wait to get wiped off, as he ran inside the house he got the zoomies throughout the house slinging mud everywhere, upstairs, downstairs, everywhere! It was a HUGE muddy mess.

This would be helpful with cat messes like throw up. Our cat had surgery last year to remove part of his colon because he suffered terribly from megacolon and we have stains that we have not been able to completely remove. For some reason cats always love to throw up on the carpet rather than the tile and usually backup during the process making a bigger mess. I would love to use the Hoover Smartwash on all of our rugs and carpets.

My youngest got ahold of my oldest slime, our living room carpet was covered! Of course it was dark pink with glitter. That was a fun day!

My husband is actively serving in the US Dip. Corps, so we live in government housing, housing that includes government-owned furniture … and rugs. One of his co-workers had a husky that she asked us to dog-sit while she was on home leave. We were so excited, unfortunately the husky, Thunder, was even more excited. The dog peed several times on the carpet, and after too many treats from our daughter, proceeded to also vomit all over the carpet … in several places. Each time I’d do my best to clean it up, but as soon as I did there would be another mess. Luckily eventually Thunder settled in, but after the first night, I gave up, rolled the carpet up, took it outside and just hosed it off, leaving it outside until the dog left.

There was a pan of oil in the garage waiting to be poured into a plastic container after it fully cooled off. It was cooled down but i forgot about it when i sent my niece to the garage freezer to get something. She walked out of the garage leaving footprints of black oil on the carpet after she managed to flip over the pan of oil in the garage. It was a long time ago but I still remember how hard it was trying to clean it up. It never got fully clean.

Our biggest messes are all dog related. Our latest one was our puppy got a box of cereal and chewed it and cereal was everywhere. It could’ve been worse.

We were painting our walls and a can of paint was dropped. We had drop cloth at the perimeter, but it was spilled beyond that. We got on it right away and were miraculously able to get it up.

I was holding a dish of wet cat food to put down for my kitty to eat. I don’t know why but it flew out of my hand and landed face down on the carpet in my dining room. The cat food was very hard to clean out of the carpet.

Oh, no…I just wrote a kind of long answer about when my dog Jack was attacked and stabbed and bled all over the place, but it doesn’t show up here and I didn’t get a message saying it would post when approved. Hope it’s gone through! 🙂

Our dog was attacked outside in our driveway by a Bad Guy who was trying to climb our wall to get onto our neighbor’s property to rob them. Jack barked and tried to alert us and the Bad Guy stabbed him in the face and on the top of the head. I heard Jack yelp and called him to come inside. It was dark and I had no idea he was hurt…until I realized something dark was dripping around him everywhere he went. We had to rush him to the emergency vet clinic where he had surgery. We came home the next morning and our house looked like a murder scene–literally. There was blood EVERYWHERE! We were exhausted from fear and lack of sleep, but we had to clean it up right away. It took FOREVER, and we didn’t have a carpet cleaner or anything, really, to help. Just wet rags, brushes, and basins! The good news is that after surgery Jack was fine! He was pretty scared to go outside for a couple of weeks after that, but he recovered completely!

Heather, that is a terrifying story. What an amazing dog to protect your home. I imagine he shook and bled everywhere! I’m so glad he’s okay now. I hope you aren’t living in as much fear now, but I understand it. You may have seen my ring doorbell post last year when someone tried to get in our house. It is the worst feeling!

Since we don’t have carpets inside because of daughter’s allergies, my biggest messes happen in the car! I think the worst was last summer on the way to the beach. We took along our dog who had gotten into the chorizo and egg we had left on the stove before we left. We were almost to the beach when all of a sudden all the chorizo and egg came up! It wasn’t pleasant and the smell took forever to dissipate!

PUKE! Our kiddo was sleeping in our bed because she wasn’t feeling well. Our bed was up against a wall. She started puking and it went all over our bed, ran down the side of our mattress and wall, and onto the carpet under the bed. It was SOOOOO disgusting. Never did get that stain all the way out! I was so thankful to get rid of that carpet finally; years later.

We have recliners in our living room, and our younger dog liked to lay underneath the end of the open recliner. We are usually careful to wait for him to move before closing the recliner. But once, my husband had to jump up suddenly and our puppy got so scared, poo squirted out of him all over our living room rug. We ended up throwing it away.

I guess my biggest mess was when the dog got sick and had diarrhea. Yes, not a pretty sight I seriously thought I was going to have to rip up the carpet. I did have to hire someone to come out and clean the carpet. This would have make it so much easier.
I now have a new puppy and as you can imagine there have been accidents. lol

I would have to say since I have a chihuahua there have been many ‘mistakes’ aka she refuses to go out in the winter. We fixed that by giving her a designated area in our bathroom during the winter. Still, the absolute worst carpet mess was a full bottle of Tide spill, I used my old carpet cleaner to clean it up but oh boy the bubbles.

Isn’t it ironic that cleaning up soap is hard. I had a bottle spill on tile and I had to keep wiping and wiping!

Love this!! We have used a different brand carpet cleaner for years, since my husband worked for the company. But she’s seen better days at this point! The grossest mess we’ve had to deal with was having a new puppy last Spring, and not knowing to avoid switching his food. Let’s just say we learned our lesson…and gave the carpet cleaner a workout. 😁

I couldn’t live without a carpet cleaner. The seals do get old and they need replacing eventually…and of course they come out with fancier machines that we can enjoy! Good luck MO! Miss you!

Yes, Katie, we have a slime situation on Charlie’s sheets right now. I’m super strict with slime, but a friend was over for like 20 minutes and didn’t know the house slime rules. 🙂
