chasing fireflies logoEvery year it comes. And every year is is done as quickly as it has come. I’m talking about Halloween. There is so much hype leading up to this day. When I first had kids, I thought I wouldn’t dress the kids up, I thought I wouldn’t even acknowledge the day. Fast forward 8 years, the idea of not having a day dedicated to dressing up in whatever costume (within reason) they wanted to and binging on huge amounts of candy, is unknown to me. We don’t agree with the meaning behind Halloween, yet we do believe in the fun…the dressing up…the talking with family and friends about what they will be for that one day….the creativity and imaginative play that day. Leading up to it is so fun!

Our fun starts every year when we receive our Chasing Fireflies catalog! We have signed up on their website to get the catalogs year round. They don’t JUST have Halloween costumes! That is one thing I didn’t realize until we started getting them. They have gorgeous clothes outside of their amazing costumes!

This year all my little ladies started dreaming about what they would be for Halloween this year, a few months ago 🙂 My oldest comes running in the house when we received a catalog that was sporting some of the Halloween costumes. They all gathered around the catalog for a good three days, on and off of course. Each of them, at this point, trying to narrow down their selection to one from about seven. Here is what we chose though – perfect choices for each of their personalities!!

the baby :: our little pink monster!
The selection of costumes for the babies or little kids is ADORABLE!! Like, crying cute adorable! If you are looking for something for a sitter or a stander, they have a huge selection. I wanted something that would cover up my little squirt. The past three years here in Michigan, it has either rainy or it was snowy. If she will be braving the elements, I wanted her covered since she will be 9 months old at that point.

With all the following costumes, you can pick and choose to create the perfect look for your little one! You can get shoes, or wear the shoes you already have. You can buy the tiara, or go without. You can make it just perfect for you, your child and your pocket book!

the 3-year old :: candy princess to the rescue!
From the start, the kids that see this dress, their jaw drops! Heck, there are little boys loving this as I learned on our Instagram when I posted this picture! You guys, it’s simply incredible and not one detail was missed! The skirt that goes under makes this outfit an even bigger hit! That plus the tiara and the necklace. Just last night my daughter was wearing the necklace without the costume lol!  See more food, sweet and fun costumes HERE.

the 5-year old :: our shining rainbow girl!
Again, my daughter saw this one and once she knew she had to make a choice, she thumbed through the catalog, said “this one”, and that was that. Not once did she regret the decision. Once it arrived, her smile was as BIG as the rainbow she is wearing. I have shown this costume to many of my friends and they just laugh. It’s seriously SO her and such a fun costume. I mean really, who dresses up as a rainbow!?!? If you have a little one that wants to be glamour and girly, check out more costumes HERE.

the 8-year old :: our dancing arabian genie!
My girls are all involved in dance, to some point. Last year, the studio we are part of did an awesome “Jai-Ho” dance and when my daughter saw this costume, it immediately reminded her of the dance. She thought if she had this costume, she could do the dance and continue to use it as dress up after Halloween. Music to my ears! Speaking of ears, the outfit jingles and flows all over. It’s completely awesome and over the top. We just love it! There are many more princess costumes too, be sure to check them out HERE.

WOW — those are nice costumes! Your daughters look great. It’s nice that they chose based on their personalities. My daughter would probably choose the pirate.

The costume choices for kids are sooo much better than when my brother and I were kids(or maybe we just didn’t shop around as much). I remember us wearing the uncomfortable plastic masks w/matching scratchy pullover costume thingy. One year, I created my own costume. I went as a gypsy. I wore a peasant blouse, long turquoise tiered skirt, bandana, and big silver hoops.

We took our daughter trick-or-treating for the first time when she was 6. She went as a princess. The best part was that the costume was given to us by a neighbor(it was her daughter’s when she was younger). I added a tiara and some matching pink/purple bracelets. It was a memorable experience for all of us. There were TONS of kids and parents walking around from door-to-door. Groups of neighbors would all be sitting in one driveway with their individual bags of treats to distribute. It was great — less walking for parents/kids and more fun for the neighbors.

Last year, my daughter went as a fire captain. We found the costume w/helmet at the thrift store for less than $5 and it fit her perfectly! We attended some community Halloween events. We’re not sure yet what she’ll go as this year.

The candy princess dress is so adorable! I don’t have kids , so I dress up my 2 dogs every year. Sushi is going to be Marilyn Monroe and Toby is going to be a witch this year.
