You know you are getting older when your friends start turning 40….or even 50 years old. I’m 36 and I remember when my mom was my age and thought she was OLD! I have a new perspective on age as the clock keeps ticking. My friends who have had monumental birthdays have handled them so gracefully. I want to embrace each age and every season of life as naturally as they have.
Meet my sweet friend Sue. When I moved to California 13 years ago, I was a scared 23 year old who was quite far from Michigan, the only home I knew. Sue was one of the first people I met and she took me under her wing. Ironically, she was the same age that I am now. She was also from Michigan, but had lived in California for many years by that point. She was such a good friend to help me acclimate to the cultural differences, but also keep my Michigan roots. She understood me.
She has 5 brothers and I have 4 brothers; neither of us have sisters. We share a common independence that I think has to be from growing up in a home with all boys. I had my 1st and 2nd babies at the same time that she had her twins and youngest child. I think of her as a big sister and this very special lady turned 50 this past week. I am so thankful God knew I would need a friend like Sue when I got married and moved far from my family. Enjoy the collage of our years of friendship. I hope you have a “SUE” in your life.
