the toothbrush that ended our toothbrushing battle

issamikrologoI have a three-year-old. A very strong- willed three-year-old. And the twice daily toothbrushing routine was a struggle. Struggle isn’t a strong enough word, really. It was a battle. One I honestly dreaded. It got a bit better as he got older, but it was still a huge struggle too get him to open his mouth. I figured we’d been at it long enough, it was worth it to try something new. So we did. The ISSA mikro.

issacloseupThe ISSA mikro by FOREO is the first silicone power toothbrush designed with young children in mind. Let’s chat first about the silicone. I have never used a brush with silicone bristles and wasn’t really sure what to expect. The bristles are soft and comfortable when he brushes. And they are safe. Free of BPA, PVC, phthalates and latex, the silicone bristles dry super fast so they don’t harbor germs like most conventional toothbrushes.  And since it’s dentist-endorsed, I’m comfortable using it with my youngest.

issamikrosite1Now let’s talk about the sonic pulse technology.  When I think of a power toothbrush, I picture one with a moving head–which I imagine would scare my toddler.  This is not the case with the ISSA mikro.  The gentle pulsation is enough to help remove plaque for older toddlers and there is also a lower mode in place for gum massage for younger babies and teething children.  And, unlike most power toothbrushes, this one runs on a rechargeable battery (charging cord included).  And an hour charge lasts 480 uses so you really can forget about it for a long time.

issamikroCollageAnd, last but not least, what did my little guy think?  He could not wait to try out his new toothbrush.  The kid who fought me every time he had to brush was now begging to try out his brush.  He loved the bright sunflower yellow (almost orange) color and thought he was so cool that his toothbrush vibrates like his dad’s!  We’ve been using the brush for a few weeks now and he is still excited to brush.  He asks for his “new toothbrush, please”, brushes his teeth by himself for a while and then lets me finish up to make sure they’ve really gotten clean.  Yes, the toothbrush is expensive.  But for only a few more days, you can take advantage of the already fully funded indiegogo pricing which saves $20!  The ISSA mikro will be launching next week at full price, so take advantage of this deal today!
