Do you have a middle schooler that loves to read? My son just turned 13 and isn’t a huge reader, but when it’s the right type of book he can really get into it.  What types of books do your kids like?
Books for 12+
I was able to get my hands on the 2 bestselling middle grade fantasy books, Dragonwatch Book 3: Master of the Phantom Isle and The Hadley Academy for the Improbably Gifted.  Both titles are fit for readers ages 12 and up.

New York Times bestselling author Conor Grennan’s new middle-grade fantasy novel The Hadley Academy for the Improbably Gifted (Thomas Nelson) follows a boy’s unlikely journey to save humanity as he unravels his true identity and the responsibility it comes with. The Hadley Academy for the Improbably Gifted is a dystopian fantasy novel that explores themes of sacrifice, darkness, and the power of friendship.  This action-packed novel features a riveting plot, relatable characters, and humorous dialogue that will captivate young readers. The diverse cast of characters will appeal to a wide audience, including those who sometimes wonder what their gifts might be. Each of the short chapters opens with a line drawing illustration.

From the world of Fablehaven, New York Time’s bestselling author Brandon Mull’s Dragonwatch 3: Master of the Phantom Isle brings readers where they’ve never been before; the Phantom Isle and the gates of the Underworld. After the Key of Forgetting stripped him of his memories and with the Dark Unicorn, Ronodin influencing him, Seth finds himself unsure of who to trust. In the Phantom Isle, Bracken and Kendra struggle to convince Seth of the truth of his past and keep him from helping the wrong side of the dragon revolt.  Tensions run high in the thrilling third installment of the Dragonwatch series. Amidst his world of dragons, aquatic creatures, and dark magic, Brandon Mull paints a harrowing story of urgency, narratives skewed, and the strength of trust and loyalty.
