relive your childhood with the wonder years on dvd :: review

imageI was probably in Junior High when the first few seasons of The Wonder Years went into afternoon reruns. My sisters and I would all come come from school and with basic television (oh yes, rabbit ears and 5 channels) we would pick our best option to watch.

When I found out that The Wonder Years :: Season One was releasing on DVD for the first time since the series ended in 1993 I was rather excited. It was like they brought back Trapper Keepers or Garbage Pail Kids. Even more excitement happened this week when I received The Wonder Years :: Season Two in the mail. Oh. My. Goodness. A piece of my childhood has been resurrected, this calls for tight rolled jeans and slouch socks with puffy paint decorated shoes!

Okay, okay. I’ll pull back on the ’80s references, but seriously, The Wonder Years was a pretty fantastic show and I wasn’t the only one who thought so. They were an Emmy Award-Winning Television show that was voted by TV Guide a one of the “Top 20 Shows of the ’80s,” and if you haven’t experienced the wonder yet you’re missing out.

imageIf you’re unfamiliar with The Wonder Years here is a brief description for you. The show follows Kevin Arnold as he grows up in suburban middle-class America in the late ’60s. Full of classic music of the time, each episode focused on an issue faced by Kevin and his friends or family. With each episode viewers were presented with a mixture of viewpoints from young Kevin (Fred Savage) and his reactions to events as he lived them as well as through a narration that gives us the viewpoints and reflections from adult Kevin (narrated by Daniel Stern).

Currently you can purchase The Wonder Years :: Season One on DVD and receive the complete season as well as some bonus features with your 2 disc set. There is also a The Wonder Years Complete Series available that includes the ENTIRE series along with over 23 hours of exclusive bonus features on the 26 disc set.

If you’re more of a ‘buy it in pieces’ type of person (seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever purchased an entire series on DVD at once) you can pick up The Wonder Years :: Season Two on DVD as of February 3, 2015. This 4 disc set will include 17 episodes from the show’s second season as well as over two hours of bonus features.

I just loved watching that show! They just don’t make shows like they did in the 80s in my opinion. I try to catch as many as I can but haven’t seen this show in years. I do remember that it was a great show we watched as a family.
