our new favorite backyard summer game makes the perfect father’s day gift

18068Outside. I can’t get enough of being outside these days. After a very long winter, we are taking advantage of the gorgeous summer weather we are having and playing some yard games. For his birthday this year, my husband asked for a few new outdoor games. I’m sharing our favorite one with you just in time for Father’s Day. KanJam.

KanJam is played with two teams of two players with the basic goal of hitting the goal with the frisbee or sinking the frisbee into the goal in one of two ways. But instead of trying to explain the rules, here is a graphic that makes so much more sense than my rambling.

IMG_0025KanJam has more action than cornhole but isn’t as intense as some adults-only games so it’s fun for both adults and children. With KanJam, it’s easy to create teams of just adults, just kids or mix it up. We love to play adult games with our friends, but we have many more opportunities to play with our kids. And after a few basic frisbee lessons, our kids make perfect partners for us.  While my son and I may have lost the first game, we spent a little time practicing when my husband and daughter were on a daddy-daughter date and we easily won games 2 and 3.  We may have created a bit of an obsession–we already have plans to take KanJam to our annual family beach vacation and 4th of July.  And it will be a fixture at our neighborhood backyard game nights this summer for sure.

kanjam3Since KanJam is made of two flat pieces that are folded into the “kan” structure, it stores completely flat and takes up virtually no room (a must for our small storage-lacking garage).  This also makes it so easy to bring along to cookouts, the beach, etc. It’s lightweight and compact, but since it’s a heavy duty, made in the USA plastic, it’s sturdy enough to withstand wind gusts and frisbee bumps (unlike some pop-up imitations I’ve seen).  Check out the other KanJam games, too.  I have my eye on KanJam splash for the pool.  What do you think of KanJam for Father’s Day? We’ve already gotten so much use out of ours–definitely beats a tie!
