night night with tommy nelson :: books for littles

As much as we all love the longer days of summer parents always love bedtime even more. This time of day is especially important for those of us with smaller children who still require constant vigilance to keep alive because once our darlings are off to sleep we can finally relax and do the things we couldn’t get done during the day while we were otherwise occupied.

If you’re looking for some new books or stories to help settle your littles down for bedtime I have some great suggestions from Tommy Nelson. Writer Amy Parker and illustrator Virginia Allyn have teamed up for a series of adorable ‘night night’ books, including the two I am about to share.

Night Night Bible Stories: 30 Stories for Bedtime is a great way to introduce your little ones to the stories of the Bible. Each of the stories in this book are written to be perfectly understood by the preschool crowd and the section of scripture where the story is found is included at the beginning. The stories are broken up with short sections of rhyming lines and are accompanied by adorable illustrations. My 4-year-old is the perfect age to sit through a reading of one of the Bible stories and we enjoy the prayer and two line rhyme that help sum up what we have just read.

Thanks to the single page of construction work and the fun animal filled town my little guy was an instant fan of Night Night, Sleepytown. This board book is fun for toddlers who will enjoy finding the hidden gems for each page as they travel through the town saying good night and thank you to all of the inhabitants. The first time we read this book I had to do a repeat reading 3 times in a row and it wasn’t because there were no other options – we have a very full bookshelf and a big bag of library books that were both on hand that that time. This book is just that much fun and has definitely made it on to my list of books to share for new baby or first birthday gifts.

I hope you enjoyed seeing a little of these adorable books from Amy Parker and Virginia Allyn and our friends at Tommy Nelson.
