merry christmas, splat… and more winter stories :: review

disclaimer no giveaway

This year we passed a mark in the lives of my girls where certain toddler themed Christmas DVDs needed to be retired. Not only can I no longer stand said DVDs, my girls are just plain bored with them as well. This being said we needed to add a couple new Christmas themed finds to our holiday DVD collection and rotation.

Merry Christmas Splat DVD coverGeared for kids 3 and up the new release, Merry Christmas, Splat… and more winter stories, from New Kideo’s Scholastic Storybook Treasures collection was a great place to start.  Not only is this DVD Christmas/holiday/winter themed, it has 4 different stories on the 1 DVD to help keep my kiddos entertained for approximately 37 minutes.  Do you have any idea what a mom can accomplish in 37 minutes? That’s practically enough time to address all the Christmas cards that need to be sent this year!

Like all the Scholastic Storybook Treasures, Merry Christmas, Splat… and more winter stories, contains short movies of narrated adaptations from actual children’s books.  This is a read-along DVD, which gives young readers a chance to practice those ever important skills as they are entertained.

Here’s some super quick descriptions for each of those 4 included stories ::

MERRY CHRISTMAS, SPLAT (Written and illustrated by Rob Scotton, narrated by John Keating) Splat is trying hard to be good before Santa’s arrival so he can get all the presents he’s dreamed of on Christmas day!

FLETCHER AND THE SNOWFLAKE CHRISTMAS (By Julia Rawlinson, illustrated by Tiphanie Beeke, narrated by Katherine Kellgren) It’s Christmas Eve and Fletcher wonders how Santa will find his burrow through all the snow.

SNOWFLAKE BENTLEY (By Jacqueline Briggs Martin, illustrated by Mary Azarian, narrated by Sean Astin) This is the story of Willie Bentley, who loved and learned all about snowflakes.

OWL MOON (Written and narrated by Jane Yolen, illustrated by John Schoenherr) A girl and her father search the moonlit woods for the Great Horned Owl.

If you are looking for some ways to keep the entertainment going after you’ve turned off the DVD player check out the  Merry Christmas, Splat free printable available on the DVD page HERE.

Splat cat is a great story. My sister is mom to a 2 month old and I believe she is looking forward to the day that she can have 37 minutes to herself…maybe 7 minutes. Baby always wants to be held / worn.
