keep your little ones safe in the sun :: no sunscreen required

jojo-logoYou all know by now that I’m pretty vigilant when it comes to sum protection. My dad and grandma both had skin cancer and, since I spent my teenage summers lifeguarding, I might be headed the same direction. But I’m taking measures for my children that I hope they will thank me for later in life. I shop for the safest sunscreen and we use it liberally. But I like to take things a step further when we’re spending time in the water. We wear sun protection swimwear–like this line from Jojo Maman Bébé.

jojohatLet’s chat about all of the options here.  First of all, I want my little one as covered as he can be.  So I start with a great hat.  This one  from Jojo Maman Bébé has a great brim that covers his little face and also a long back that completely covers his head, neck and ears.  I can’t tell you how many times I forget to sunscreen those little ears–and now I don’t have to!  They stay covered in this great hat.  And since it’s a thin, swimsuit material, it can get wet, dry quickly and is super comfortable.  He doesn’t fight me when I put it on him and he totally wears it even while he’s swimming (note that he doesn’t generally put his head under water.  If your little one is a fish, this hat would be best worn in between swimming sessions).

jojozipperNow for the rash guard.  This is my favorite piece of Jojo’s Sun Wear line.  It’s so well thought out!  My whole family sports rash guards at the pool.  And while they all offer some sun protection, there are a few things that set Jojo’s rash guard apart.  One is the zipper!  This is brilliant!  We are all fighting trying to pull off wet rash guards after swimming.  They get so suctioned to our skin that they are a huge pain to take off.  But this one zips way down and comes right off.  No fight at all.  Next, I love the 3/4 length sleeves.  Our fully long-sleeved rash guards tend to stretch out when we pull on the arms and they end up not lasting as long as I’d like.  But the short-sleeved ones don’t offer quite as much sun protection as I’d like.  I also love the higher neck of this rash guard.  Combined with the hat, we can pretty much skip the sunscreen altogether!

I have never seen an outfit like this before. I love how cute it is and the great sun protection they get. This would be great for my grandsons.

Love the little hat with it and the zipper! The rash guards are tough to pull off when wet sometimes. Don’t forget the sun can reflect off the water and still bounce up to burn little faces too so still sunscreen the face. My brother got a bad burn on his face as a toddler from sun reflection at the lake.

Great tip, Lacey! I didn’t even think of the reflection! Thankfully he didn’t burn at all after a day at the beach but I’ll definitely remember that next time!

Jojo Maman Bébé seems to have wonderful items. I do like the Jojo Maman Bébé hat. I wish I had these when my children were young since we all are very fair skinned.

We do love our Jojo items. They seem to think of everything! We are all fair-skinned, too, so we do everything we can to stay sun-safe!
