highlights press :: the perfect interactive books for kids

highlights press logoI still remember sitting in the dentist’s office as a child working through the Highlights magazines hidden pictures and puzzles.  Anyone else?  Those were the best!  And now that my kids are older, I’ve noticed that they love doing the same thing!  So I was super excited to find out that Highlights Press makes activity books for kids of all ages that include super fun Hidden Pictures®, Puzzlemania®, and Amazing Mazes, as well as craft books, joke books, and seasonal titles.

highlightsfinditI recently ordered quite a few books from Highlights Press and as soon as the box came, my kids saw “Highlights” on the label and needed to dig in immediately. Admittedly, I was just as excited.  It was so fun that Highlights Press offers so many options for kids of all ages.  My youngest son loves the Find It! books.  They are padded and perfect for younger children.  With a short story as well as objects to find on each page, they keep my little guy engaged.  I love that I’m able to work on colors (“Can you find the green boots?”) and interact a bit more than with a typical story.

My 7-year-old has gotten such a kick out of the joke books.  We may have heard a few hundred on the way to Grandma’s house over Christmas.  But, hey, anything that keeps him reading is great!  My 9-year-old daughter is super into Puzzlemania.  One of the things I love is that these books use logic, math and reasoning skills without her realizing she is learning while she works through the puzzles.  She has even taken to writing her own logic puzzles and asking me to solve them.  We have had a blast snuggling in her bed and working on puzzles together.

I love that each of these books takes a piece of things you might find in a Highlights magazine and makes a book of those.  When I was a kid, I loved the Hidden Pictures in the Highlights–and now I can buy a book full of just Hidden Pictures for my kids.  I’m going to get a new book for each of my kids for a trip coming up.  They really keep them busy for a long time–great for wintry days and long car rides.  And they have age appropriate options for ages 1 through adult!  Take a peek at some of the Highlights Press options and tell me what you and your kids would love the most!

I like the idea of any type of encouragement for book readers. I like the puzzlemania book for my 8 year old niece.
