HelloFresh_logo (1)I have to admit. I’ve been in a bit of a dinnertime rut lately.  My grocery list looks about the same every week.  We tend to eat the tried and true favorites over and over.  And over.  Sifting through pages and pages of recipes, deciding to take a chance on one of them and then buying all of the ingredients for that one recipe is a bit overwhelming.  But how do I move away from the Taco Tuesday food rut?  Enter Hello Fresh.

011Hello Fresh chooses three recipes each week, shops for you and delivers the recipes and ingredients right to your door.  They use simple, yet interesting chef-made recipes and only the freshest meats, herbs, and produce.  Most recipes can be made in about 30 minutes and only require basic kitchen tools and a few ingredients from home.

My Hello Fresh delivery came in a large cooler with plenty of ice packs.  The first thing I noticed were the recipe cards with detailed instructions and pictures.  My recipes for the week:  Steak Tagliata with Roasted Tomatoes and Potatoes, Alexis’ Chicken Tortilla soup, and Emeril’s Catfish with Glazed Carrots and Rice Pilaf.

The components of each meal are packaged in an adorably-labeled bag.  And the quality was fabulous.  I am a picky shopper—especially in the meat and produce department.  So I was very pleased with the ripe produce—they even managed to pick perfect avocados (which I am rarely successful doing). The meat and fish were super fresh.   And the herbs were fresh sprigs of thyme, basil, parsley and rosemary.  Vegetarians, there is also a box customized for you!

012Now for the taste.  My first recipe was Emeril’s Catfish.  As it was cooking, my six-year-old kept asking when he could eat because “It smells sooooo good!”  And the taste was as good as the smell.  My 6 and 8-year-olds finished their portion without having to be asked which says a lot.  I loved that I could customize it pretty easily for each family member—from quite a bit of heat to none.   The chicken tortilla soup was the perfect ending to a cold, rainy Saturday and the Steak Tagliata made for a fancy Sunday dinner.  Like the catfish, I could customize each of the meals for my family, omitting ingredients for some, adding extra for others.  And even my picky eaters gave the whole experience two thumbs up.

Hello Fresh is offering a special just for SIMPLE readers –  25% off using the code SIMPLEMOMS.  Don’t wait too long–this code expires on 12/31/14.

I was very impressed with the recipes and quality! It was so nice to have some new meals for our family. I love to cook, but meal planning is not my favorite, so having three great meals already planned out for me was perfect! They are always changing up the recipes–you can get a preview of what’s to come (and some past recipes) and even some cooking “classes” on their website!
