schwans-logo1I am not big on Halloween decorations. My kids are always bugging me to put up spiders and skeletons and scary witches. It’s just not my thing. I haven’t dressed up in an actual Halloween costume since 2004. But my kiddos love every spooky thing Halloween has to offer. So they were super excited to try out some fun Halloween recipes from Schwan’s.

schwans The first one we made was Schwan’s Mummy Dogs. Think “pigs in a blanket” but mummy style. My daughter LOVED making these. They are Schwan’s hot dogs wrapped un-dead style in slices of cheese and strips of crescent rolls and baked in the oven. Mummies in minutes! We did alter the recipe a bit: my kiddos do not do mustard which is what the recipes calls for to give the mummies their eyes. So, in a moment of mommy brilliance, I grabbed a straw and a piece of cheese and made “eyes” by using the straw as a shape cutter (insert pat on back here).

We also got to make Schwan’s Ice Scream Balls. They look like cake pops but are made with ice cream (scooped into balls with a melon baller) and pretzel sticks. We rolled them in fun Halloween-style sprinkles I picked up from the grocery store and stuck them in the freezer for 30 minutes or so. These were so easy and cute! My little kitchen helpers loved turning plain old ice cream into a fun little treat! They were so tasty and we have plenty left over to make them a few more times before Halloween rolls around. schwans 2

The best part about these recipes is that they are as simple as a Halloween craft AND you get to eat them afterwards instead of having to hang them on your fridge. Bonus! So save your fridge space for all those Halloween themed projects coming home from school and order some Schwan’s products to make your own edible craft for your family!
