a simple diy :: wish bracelet

My daughter is obsessed with Bohemian/60 style jewelry using natural materials.  That’s how we have decided to make a simple diy :: wish bracelet.  Wish bracelets derive from a Brazilian folk lore. You make a wish when you put the bracelet on and it is a constant reminder of what you wished for. The bracelet is designed to eventually break down over time and the beads falling off one-by-one. Once the beads are gone, your wish is supposed to come true.  They are super easy to make and would make great gifts for your girl’s friends.  Sort of like a friendship bracelet only with a Wish Bracelet your wish might actually come true.

Materials:
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • 7 beads
  • Hemp
  • Ruler

Step 1:  The first thing you need to do is measure out your hemp.  You will need three strands of hemp 15 inches long.  Once you have them cut tie them together so that your braid does not come unraveled.

Step 2:  The second thing you need to do is begin braiding.  Just a traditional braid for approximately 3.5 inches.

Step 3:  Now the easiest way to add your beads is to do it all at once on the same strand.  If you are right handed add them on the right strand of hemp, if you are left handed add them to the left.  This way every time you go to use that strand of hemp you add a bead.

Step 4:  Continue Step 2 and Step 3 until you have finished your Wish Bracelet.  Make sure to knot the end of bracelet so that it does not come unraveled.

Step 5:  Last I would add a slip knot.  With the shorter side, basically you tie a regular knot and slip the other tied strand into the opening.  This will allow you to slip it onto the person you are giving it to and tighten it to their exact size.

Would your daughter wear a Wish Bracelet?

Remember the Wish Bracelet is designed to be worn until all the beads fall off for your wish to come true.
