TheLoneRangerBlurayComboArtI’m sharing a Disney flick with you today that’s a little out of character for the ones I typically share.  I typically share ones that you can dive in to with your kids and enjoy on a little family night.  Today is more of one you can watch with your spouse instead.  Breaking from the norm, I know! 🙂 But I think that’s good every now and then!  Plus, we need a break for a good flick too!  This movie is rated PG-13.

I’m going to share my candid thoughts with you and I’d LOVE to hear what you think of this too if you have seen it already.  I was sent Disney’s The Lone Ranger, which is now available for purchase.  It was released on December 17, 2013.  First, let’s start with a synopsis:

Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer star in The Lone Ranger, from Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Director Gore Verbinski. It’s a wild ride of high velocity action, explosions and gunfights that brings the famed masked legend to life through brand-new eyes. The Lone Ranger (Hammer), the last of his kind, teams with Tonto (Depp), a dark and mysterious vigilante, to seek vengeance after justice has failed them. It’s a runaway train of epic surprises, as these two unlikely heroes must learn to work together before the ultimate showdown between good and evil explodes.

Now on to my thoughts.  First of all, this is not a kids movie at all. There were people getting killed, and while it wasn’t gory, it was still a little more than I imagined it to be being a Disney movie and all.  That being said, I’ve seen MUCH worse too 🙂

Johnny Depp was funny and weird (we would expect nothing less, right?).  He does do a great job and has some pretty funny one liners… he made the movie for me, to be honest.  The main character, Kemo Sabe was interesting.  He was a very prim and proper man who didn’t ever shoot a gun because he didn’t like guns.  It made his character look weak and goofy – not the tough Lone Ranger I was expecting. 🙂  But still, a great movie in the sense that it did things I didn’t anticipate.  Just like many movies out there, there was a love story in it but not a very developed one so that portion really didn’t even capture my attention.

The cinematography was great and they did have some pretty good explosion scenes, train accidents and just action scenes in general. There was a LOT put in to making this movie obviously, and you can see them trying to get a lot of the story in too.  Which I totally appreciate!

In addition, there are bonus features including deleted scenes, blooper reels and more.  Be sure to check that out when the movie is done!
