DK Publishing LogoEven though my girls are now 4 and 6-years-old and well past the average board book stage there are a few of our absolute favorite board book titles that we have held on to. As soon as I saw the request in a recent invite to a friend’s baby shower to help start a library for the new baby I knew that I would have to bring a DK board book.

Fun in the Car Reading DK BooksIf you’re familiar with DK board books you know exactly why these books are still hanging around our home and why they quickly came to mind when I needed to buy a board book for someone else. Every DK board book we have ever owned has proven to be of excellent quality and highly durable (they’ve lasted through two kids and beyond at my house). Even more importantly, they are full of fun illustrations, engaging photos, and/or interesting textures.

Wondering what kinds of titles DK offers? Here’s a little sample of the latest additions to our library ::

Baby Touch and Feel FarmBaby Touch and Feel: Farm :: simple and colorful photo images are accompanied by large fonts, minimal words, varied textures, and engaging reflective ‘pieces.” When accompanied by rounded corners and padded covers, the Baby Touch and Feel series is perfect for… well, babies.

Touch and Feel DinosaurTouch and Feel: Dinosaur :: geared for preschoolers this book fascinated both of my girls, specifically the ‘sticky’ tongue of the T-Rex on the last page. I kid you not when I say that they showed this book to EVERY person who has come to our house in the past couple weeks. Kid (and mom) approved for interesting textures and realistically depicted dinosaurs.

Sophie and Friends a Touch and Feel BookTouch and Feel: Sophie la girafe®: Sophie and Friends :: Yes, that Sophie. Since her debut in France in 1961, the beloved Sophie la girafe® has been a favorite teether for moms around the world. Now you can find the first ever Sophie books available from DK. This specific title is full of soft and bumpy textures and has a great story to introduce Sophie and her friends to young children.

My First Trucks and DiggersMy First Trucks and Diggers :: the tabbed pages on these board books are a great way to entertain young kids on their own. The My First Tabbed Board Books have long been a favorite at our house for their themed photographic designs.

Pop Up Peekaboo BedtimePop-Up Peekaboo: Bedtime :: kids love pop-up books and the Pop-Up Peekabook books are a great way to introduce these fun books to younger children. Turning the page for the ‘pop-up’ is fun for children and the rhyming story in this book will keep them engaged.

Flash Card Blad.inddMy First Touch and Feel Picture Cards: Animals :: this set of 16 bright and colorful picture cards are full of textures. The set also comes with a parent guide that has tips on helping children develop language and cognitive skills using the cards. Simple enough to start with babies but even my 4-year-old has fun sorting the cards by where the animals live, or by the beginning sounds of the animal’s name.

One of my favorite continued uses for our many DK board books has been in the car. These sturdy books not only are engaging they hold up to the abuse of floating in a basket or seat pocket much better than paper books. If you haven’t figured it out yet DK books is a great addition to any children’s library and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for great kids books!

My niece Stella would love the book with the ducks. She is obsessed with ducks and has a collection of them.. she’s only 2 1/2 years old. I hope you have a giveaway some time for these books. They look very strong and sturdy.
