a simple recipe :: silly putty remover

Do your children love to play with Silly Putty? Mine do, but unfortunately they don’t know when to tell me they have made a mess. The first time I found Silly Putty in my carpet I nearly had a heart attack. Could you image vacuuming your carpet and realizing your child covered up Silly Putty to keep from getting in trouble? Needless to say I found it several months later.  It was so hard it didn’t think it was possible to get that dried up putty out of my carpet, but I tried several cleaning products to up up with this great combination.  So yesterday when I noticed my child had dropped some Silly Putty on the carpet again I knew just what to do.

Step 1:: The first thing you do is coat the Silly Putty heavily with Goo Gone.  Move it around and spray more Goo Gone to make sure that it is coated heavily.  I used an old top to scrape at the putty. Make sure to add more Goo Gone and scrape some more.

Step 2:: Once I had scraped most of the Silly Putty out of the carpet I used Rubbing Alcohol to clean the area of all Goo Gone and leftover Silly Putty. I poured a good bit of Rubbing Alcohol on the area and then used a rag to clean the remaining Silly Putty off my carpet.  You will have to put some elbow grease into the rubbing, but the end result is well worth it.

Step 3:: Once you have cleaned the area good with Rubbing Alcohol then you can just dry your carpet and you will never know that it was once covered in Silly Putty!
