a simple indoor activity all of my kids love

pirastalogoOur summers stay pretty busy. We love getting outside, going to the pool or beach, planning picnics. You get the idea. But sometimes a mama needs some time at home! I’m talking laundry, making dinner, just having a little downtime. But just because we’re home doesn’t mean we’re sitting in front of a screen!

It’s hard to find something that my kids (ranging in age from 3-10) all like to do together. It’s usually a little bribe to get my big kids to entertain my youngest or they are all playing on their own. And while that’s all fine with me, it’s nice to find something they can collaborate on and all still enjoy.

We recently ordered this Really Big Coloring Poster from Pirasta NYC. Measuring 63″ x 36″, this thing stretches out over my entire kitchen table.  And while none of my kids particularly like coloring books, there is something about this giant poster that they all love.  It’s whimsical and fun and will be super adorable hanging on my playroom wall.  Since my youngest is three, we are sticking to working at it on the table since I’m pretty sure he would stray onto the wall with his crayons.  But if your kids are older (or just a lot better at staying in the lines), you could definitely hang it up and leave it there so the wall can be their workspace.

You guys, can I just tell you how fun this poster is?  I can totally tell which of my kids colored which pictures–some realistic, some more fantastical, some adorable toddler scribbles.  And, not only are they making this adorable poster that will become a permanent fixture in our playroom, but each state shows some important facts about that state.  The Wright Brothers are flying out of North Carolina, racecars zoom through Indiana, there’s even ice cream in Vermont!  So don’t tell my kids, but they’re learning a bit while they play!

It’s recommended to hang up with painter’s tape, but I’d love a slightly more permanent way to preserve this fun poster when it’s done (without buying that large of a custom frame).  Any ideas for me?

This really looks like a lot of fun and my nephew is having a birthday and this would make a nice gift idea! This can teach him about the US while coloring. What a great idea.

I love the Let’s Color America large poster especially since my son is going into the grade where they will be learning all the states and their capitols!

I’m hoping they remember a few things to help them through some geography lessons!

My grandsons absolutely love coloring! This would be a great activity for them to do over several days or even weeks. They would be so proud of the finished product!

Really Big Coloring Poster is such a great idea! My kids would have enjoyed that so much when they were young. Coloring always entertained them.

The size makes me so happy–it’s going up on a full wall of our playroom!
