In craft time/ get crafty

a shrinky dinks kinda day

I was looking for supplies to make stepping stones, but ended up finding some old Shrinky Dinks instead. If you have never tried Shrinky Dinks it’s a craft you must try with the kids.  You can buy the sheets with designs already on them or you could make your own designs.  My son and I decided to color all the sheets we had left while the girls occupied  themselves.

Shrinky Dinks

Directions::

The directions are really simple all you have to do is color your Shrinky Dinks with all your favorite color pencils. Make sure to color the design hard on the soft side of the Shrinky Dinks paper.  The more time you take the coloring the better they will look after they have been baked in the oven. Preheat over to 325 degrees and bake for a 1-3 minutes. As you watch your Shrinky Dinks bake they will shrink before your eyes. You will know when to take them out of the oven.

Shrinky Dinks

First they will curl up and you will think they are ruined, but then they will slowly straighten out. Once they lay down flat you can take them out of the oven.  After they had a chance to cool down I took them to show the kids and they were amazed at how small they were.  The angel was approximately 8 1/2″ X 11″ when I began coloring it.  It shrunk down to  approximately 3″ X 4″.

I chose to include this Bible verse along the boarder:

Ephesians 2:8-9 New International Version (NIV)

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Would you try Shrinky Dinks with your children?
