zaq aromatherapy diffuser :: review

zaq logoI’ve been using essential oils for a year. There are so many benefits to essential oils and so many different ways to use them. But my favorite way to use essential oils is with a diffuser. A diffuser allows you to infuse essential oils into any room—cleaning the air, eliminating odors and providing health benefits without harmful chemicals. My previous diffuser ran until the water ran out—about 90 minutes or so. But when I found an oil blend to help my son’s breathing, I wanted to be able to run the diffuser in his room while he slept—much longer than 90 minutes.

When I did a basic search on Amazon, I noticed that ZAQ had several different diffuser models.  I was initially drawn to the ZAQ Galaxy ceramic diffuser because of its longer run time—5 to 6 hours according to the product description. I was pleasantly surprised that, after starting the diffuser around 11pm, it was still running when I woke up at 7 the next morning. It surpassed the 5-6 hour run time!

My older kids love the changing colored lights in the diffuser. I prefer my room to be completely dark, so I love that I can turn off the lights completely or keep it at just a white light if I want something dim.  The ZAQ diffuser is fairly quiet—just the light trickling noise of the water, so it’s more of a white noise, which I love while sleeping and isn’t noticeable if I’m using the diffuser while I’m working.

I’ve noticed some diffusers on the market require batteries to run. While that might be nice while traveling, I can’t imagine having to refill the batteries for in-home use. Thankfully the ZAQ diffusers come with an AC adapter so I don’t have to add the expense of batteries.

The only drawback I found to this particular model of the ZAQ diffuser is that it is ceramic (and therefore breakable), which I knew before buying, but didn’t think of the logistics of that. ZAQ has plenty of other options if you prefer something less fragile.

    Hi! I love this review for this product! I am searching for the perfect diffuser for me to use. I will be living in a small apartment next year and I want this in my own room. Do you think the mist will go throughout the apartment? I really am trying to find something that will not disperse too far incase my roommates do not like the smell I am using.

      This diffuser produces a very fine mist. Because it holds more water than my other diffuser, I actually find the smell to be somewhat weak unless I use quite a few drops of oil. So I would think that the mist would just stay in one room. When I use it in a bedroom with a closed door, I don’t notice the smell outside of the room. I would think that keeping the diffuser in an area farther from the door would help, too, but I do think that you’d be safe with this one.

    My husband and I have been researching diffusers and it’s been tough finding reviews for this specific one, so thank you!!! I love the design and that it has an no light option (I’m a dark room sleeper too!).
    I know this is a fairly recent review but I was wondering if it is still meeting your families expectations? Do you still really like it?
    Thanks so much!!

      Hi Emily. Yes, the diffuser is still working well. We use it almost nightly in my toddler’s room. Since it has a slightly larger capacity, it runs quite a long time and helps his breathing most of the night. My only complaint is that it is breakable (as I mentioned in the review) so it’s a bit less portable than my other (Young Living) diffuser.

    I just recently learned about diffusers and essential oils… now I want one! This looks fantastic, and I know my daughters would love the sparkly lights. Thanks for adding something new to my Christmas wish list. 🙂

    I have a Mirage ZAQ diffuser I’ve been using for a few months now. They are awesome! I pretty much run mine all day long…. I change oils once in the morning, once in the evening and turn it off from midnight till about 7am. Still runs quietly and perfectly! Only good things to say about it! And the price! Awesome product!
