Smooth Fitness BadgeWhile this post isn’t exactly all “pump you up”, I still feel it’s important to share.  I mean, if you are going to be working out, why not get the biggest bang for your buck.  Right?  Whether you do your work-outs on treadmills or ellipticals, doing things the right way is worth it!

 

  1. Doing Slow Workouts Will Burn More Fat: There has been study after study done on this.  The bottom line…. NOT TRUE.  Interval training (30 sec burst of energy with a 2-4 minute rest) will burn far more calories in a shorter period of time.  Studies also show that intervals can boost your body’s fat burning capacity which mean you can burn fat even when you are not working out!!!
  2. just do it #SmoothBloggerYou Can Burn More Fat On An Empty Stomach: The argument on this is about 50/50%.  If your goal is to lose weight you are far better off having adequate nutrition to fuel your workout which will indeed have a greater impact on calorie burn.
  3. In Order To Flatten Your Belly, Just Do More Ab Exercises: Ab exercises are great, but will NOT flatten your belly.  While you can improve muscle tone by working on a concentrated area, unfortunately the same is not true for fat loss.  The key to losing fat (and flattening your belly) is simply burning more calories than you eat.
  4. Exercise Can Turn Fat Into Muscle:  Nope.  Scientifically impossible.  It is possible to decrease the amount of fat cells and increase the size of your muscle cells, but one tissue cannot be turned into another.
  5. Lifting Weights Will Make A Woman Look Bulky: Women simply have too much estrogen build a large amount of bulk.  It can be done, but it is very, very difficult.  If you are a lady and have been avoiding the weights, this could be your issue.  You can increase lean muscle mass, burn more calories and decrease body fat by simply adding strength training to your workouts.
