thirsties :: modern cloth diapers duo diaper {giveaway}

I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to own and review a number of Thirsties products (read here and here). Today I would like to introduce you to the Duo Diaper!

The Duo Diaper is essentially a Duo Wrap made into a pocket diaper, with the same outer shell of 100% polyester with waterproof urethane coating and an added inner layer of 100% polyester microfleece to form the pocket. The pocket opens at both ends, making washing a breeze because the inserts agitate out on their own. The diaper comes with an insert duo consisting of a 100% polyester-microfiber terry insert and a hemp/cotton insert, which snap together to form a double layer of soaking power. This diaper means business. The Duo Diaper is trim fitting, but maintains excellent absorption.  The Thirsties signature leg gussets form an extra barrier against leaks – and it really works!

leg gussets contain leaks!

Like the other Thirsties diapers, the Duo Diaper comes in 2 sizes, but adjusts in the rise using 3 snap settings – this is a great feature because typical one-size diapers either don’t get small enough to fit newborns, or don’t get large enough to last through potty training. The Duo Diaper is available in either snap or aplix waist closure. I opted for snaps because I can’t ever seem to remember to affix aplix to laundry tabs. Ever. Ever. Ever. Thank goodness for snaps, seriously.

My only minor complaint is that the hemp/cotton insert shrinks a little when you wash it, so it ends up being a little smaller than the polyester one – since the polyester one is supposed to be closer to baby’s skin, and the hemp/cotton on the outside, I have to undo one of the snaps to get them to work together.  Otherwise, the polyester one bunches up just slightly since the hemp/cotton is shorter. This is seriously a minor issue and does not affect the functionality of the diaper. UPDATE! Thirsties let me know that they were aware of this issue and had corrected it by lengthening the hemp/cotton insert – I just happened to get one of the older ones! They even offered to replace my insert with the new style! Best customer service ever! So if you happen to get the old version and it shrinks too much, just send a photo to Thirsties and they will make it right!

If you haven’t figured this out already, I really love Thirsties. There is truly a diapering option for everyone in their lineup, their products are handmade right here in the USA by a dedicated group of seamstresses, they offer the best customer service I’ve ever experienced, and their diapers are just plain awesome. Plus, I love the white outline on the diapers, they look so modern, yet so retro! LOVE! my SIMPLE star rating :: 5 out of 5
