take road play on the road with playtape :: review

On any given day, you could walk in to my house and find most of my floors covered in tracks. Train tracks. Car tracks. Some days he’s creating “the worlds longest track” and on others he’s seeing how many different loops he can make. The boy just loves tracks and all vehicles that go on them!

But me? Well, as much as I love his creativity (and that they keep him busy long enough for me to sneak in an uninterrupted shower), it can be like walking through a minefield! I don’t care what kind of tracks he’s using, those little things hurt when you unexpectedly step on one!

Insert my life foot saver — PlayTape from InRoad Toys!

PlayTape is a removable tape that is made to look like roads. Simple, right? Actually, it totally is!

PlayTape is so easy to use that my 3 year old son can do it all by himself! Simply unroll and stick to any flat surface*. Because the PlayTape is made of paper, tearing it is a breeze. No need for scissors. Again, even my 3 year old can easily tear it. Create short drag racing tracks or long winding roads…whatever you like! Because the roll is continuous you are in control of how long or short you make the roads!

Also, PlayTape does not leave any sticky residue behind. Just pull the PlayTape off the floor when you’re finished and toss it away. Or pull up a road and reposition it to create a new road/track. This is super great because my son likes to change his mind a lot on how the roads should be positioned and I don’t have to worry about my floors being covered in a sticky mess (besides the juice he just spilled next to the tracks).

Now, a word about surfaces…Obviously carpet doesn’t work well with PlayTape (unless maybe on a really short Berber). We tried. Then we tried the tile in our back hallway. Confession: it was not the cleanest of surfaces. The PlayTape worked on the tile but often curled up on the edges. Our best spot was (of course) the laminate flooring in the kitchen and dining room. Worked absolutely perfect there! I could totally foresee using PlayTape on tabletops, too!!!

Aside from all everything I said above, what I really, really love about PlayTape is that it’s super portable and causes me no pain! The rolls are easy to toss into your purse or backpack and take along when traveling. Add a few little cars or trucks and you have instant play wherever you are! I’m thinking hotels, grandma’s house, our camper. And, because it is just a tape, you can step on this stuff all day long and not be screaming out in pain! My son loves that he can leave his PlayTape roads out all day and I love that I’m not dancing around them. The little cars he leaves out by his roadways are another story…

PlayTape Road Series comes in three colors — classic black, orange and purple — and is also available in a variety of roll lengths and widths (50mm for those standard matchbox cars and 100mm for the bigger cars or two lane roads).

You can also get railroad track PlayTape with their Rail Series. Again, they have a variety of lengths but this time you can choose from standard railroad tracks, overgrown railroad tracks, and trolley tracks!

Oh, and PlayTape is compatible with pretty much any brand toy car, truck, or train. So, that’s pretty awesome, too!
