snow white and the huntsman :: new to dvd

We had an opportunity to view Snow White and the Huntsman on DVD before it was released.  I always think that’s fun.  Kinda like I have something that no one else does…full well knowing I’m not the only one.  But anyways…

In this spectacular action-adventure, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) is Snow White, the only woman in the land fairer than the evil queen Ravenna (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron). Ravenna wants nothing more than to destroy her young rival, but she doesn’t know that Show White has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) the queen dispatched to kill her. Together with a handsome prince (Sam Claflin) enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power, they assemble an armed force to recapture the kingdom. This breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders is, in the words of Shawn Edwards, Fox-TV, “A film that soars with creativity, stylistic genius and amazing battle scenes.”

I hadn’t seen this movie in the theaters but was totally intrigued by it.  Any movies that take a spin on a classic are always entertaining.  And this one did not let me down.  I was totally concerned about this movie being dark and scary.  I do not like scary…at all.  In spots it was quite dark and yes QUITE scary (I am a sissy), but not pee my pants have nightmares scary.

DEFINITELY not one for the kiddos.  Even if I had older children, wouldn’t let them watch this one.

Great, all-star cast line up. Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth are the main ones I enjoyed watching but there are more I recognized for sure. It’s always fascinating seeing them do what they do best.

There are stories within the story – making it deeper and more entertaining.  All in all, I thought it was a thoroughly good movie.  Deep, dark, scary, fun and a tiny bit of romance in the air.  Without giving spoilers and going too deep in to the movie of course.

Head on over to the Snow White & the Huntsman site and you can see a preview as well as some behind the scenes snippits.

Thanks for the review! I skipped this movie in theaters too based on some negative reviews I heard from some coworkers of mine at DISH. I thought I’d wait until it came out on DVD, so I could rent it first with my Blockbuster @Home package before I decided on spending my money and purchasing it. I was going to watch it with my kids too, but based on what you’ve said it doesn’t seem like it would be suitable for them. I guess I’ll just put it in my rental queue and save it for a night for just the hubby and me. Thanks again for the review, that’s pretty awesome you got a copy before it released! 🙂

Thanks for the note Kaylah! Yah, I am a sissy. Scary movies aren’t my forte. And while it’s not super scary, it’s just dark in some spots. And, back to my sissy-ness LOL! I hope you enjoy it! Overall it’s a really good movie I thought!!
