Materials: canvas, paint, paintbrush, buttons (or other small items like Legos or toy cars or animal figures), fine glitter(not pictured), Glue Dots (I used permanent ones)

I like to start by arranging my buttons on the unpainted canvas to make sure I can actually make the shape I see in my head. You could lightly sketch the letter onto the canvas if you need to. Just play around with it until it fills the space and looks nice. Then take a picture of it on your phone. If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably need to reference that picture later.
glue dots 1Remove the letters and paint your canvas. Once my canvas is dry, I like to add a little dimension to the boring flat painted surface. What I’ve done here is take a very small amount of white paint and gently painted a few lines across the canvas. Quickly (so that the paint doesn’t dry) spread it out the opposite direction, making a linen type look.
glue dots 2Now the fun part. Put the buttons back onto the canvas like you did before. (Here’s where you might need to reference that picture you took earlier). Then pick up the buttons one at a time and glue them onto the canvas with Glue Dots. You can stop at this point if you wish, but when I finished mine I decided it was lacking something.
glue dots 3So I placed Glue Dots all the way around the edge of the canvas. Be careful not to touch the ones you’ve already put on as you put on the others. Then carefully pour fine glitter (found at craft stores) over the Glue Dots. It’d be wise to do this part out in the yard or anywhere that doesn’t mind being covered in “pixie dust”, as my Disney-loving little call it. Once you’ve coated all of the Glue Dots, pour or brush off the excess glitter.
glue dots 4Thankfully Glue Dots don’t harden as quickly as glue gun glue and the edge is much, much more uniform than what it would have looked like if I’d tried to hot glue it!
