reading with the kids thanks to sleeping bear press :: review

Sleeping Bear Press logoIt’s no secret that we like the books from Sleeping Bear Press here at my house.  (You can read all about my review for one of their other titles here.) I just love that this great publisher keeps coming out with more new great books and I just had to share a couple with you!

Sleeping Bear Press - Say DaddyAfter a solid two years of being page book ripping free my kids are firmly in the stage of life where we don’t have to only have board books on hand.  This doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate a good board book when we find one though!  I love how board books still can have great stories contained in a sturdy and shorter format.  Especially nice for new babies, toddlers, or my insanely active 3-year-old.

Miss Dani has enjoyed reading the board book version of Say Daddy!  This adorable story about how everyone in the new baby’s family reads the baby a book and tries to get the baby to say their name, hence the title “Say Daddy!”  After all their efforts the baby’s first word is revealed at the end, much to the delight of the entire family. A cute story from Michaela Shoulders with illustrations by Teri Weidner shows that kids are never too young to learn to love books.

Sleeping Bear Press - Johnny KawThankfully 5-year-old Michaela enjoys sitting for longer stories and I was able to giggle along with her as we read Johnny Kaw: A Tall Tale.  With her extremely active imagination reading this book is sure to give her playtime inspiration for weeks to come.

As indicated in the title this is a TALL TALE about Johnny Kaw, who at 5 minutes old was already six feet two and kept on growing. The book gives sweet tempered Johnny Kaw credit for creating the Rockies, clearing the plain states of trees, and chopping off the top of a twister with homemade scythe. Miss M loved having me read this book by Devin Scillian aloud to her as much as she enjoyed looking at the illustrations by Brad Sneed on her own.

Another couple of great books from Sleeping Bear Press that I recommend checking out for your kiddos!
