@polarglobal, the best way to track your heart rate while working out :: review and giveaway

disclaimer giveaway
polar logoWhile I am 25 weeks pregnant, I still visit the gym quite regularly.  I mean, how can I not after being an avid runner for so many years!  For whatever reason, this pregnancy I wasn’t able to continue running…so I have had to adapt to new workouts!  With new workouts, come new challenges and ways to injure yourself if you are not careful.  Again, being pregnant, I didn’t want to overdo it.  I chose to do exercises that I am comfortable doing, in addition to monitoring my heart rate.  If you are not familiar with the benefits of monitoring your heart rate while working out, I highly suggest you look in to it!  If you are trying to lose weight, there is a particular zone you should be in, your fat burning zone, if you will.  If you are pregnant, there is a “safe” zone you should stay in as well.  All in all, monitoring your heart rate is a fabulous thing to do!

There is a “learning” curve, with any new device.  My husband and I sat down together one night and he helped me get familiar with my new Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor.  This little thing has been with me through every workout now since I got it!  I love how accurate it is.  I can just about guess what my heart rate is when I’m working out, a gift after all these years I guess LOL!  When I look down at my wrist to view the rate at which the Polar FT4 says my heart is beating, it’s spot on with what I’m feeling!

Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor
You wear a heart rate strap around your chest and that “talks” to the monitor on your wrist.  That takes a little getting used to, but once you tighten it up just right, you forget you are even wearing it.

The FT4 comes in great colors.  I, of course, chose PINK!  The other options include bronze, blue and emerald green.

Check out these last few points, a little more on the product itself.

  • For those who want basic heart rate-based features to keep their fitness training simple
  • Shows when you’re improving fitness based on your heart rate
  • Displays calories burned
  • Comes with comfortable fabric transmitter and coded heart rate transmission to avoid cross-talk

I’m not joking when I say I just adore this.  I love watching my heart rate, keeping it in range and then when my workout is complete, seeing the calories I have successfully burned.  Wearing a heart rate monitor is the best, and most accurate way to keep track of the calories burned, so why not start here! (Yes, I’m pregnant and I shouldn’t be watching calories…I know.  I’m not watching them to lose weight, I just like to see what my burn was worth…I guess 🙂 )

I would love the polar loop! It gives you updates and you can see things with it better than the fit bit. You also can check online to see your progress. You can add the heart sensor to get even more out of it! You can also use it on your phone to track things too.

I want this monitor to help motivate me. It says it shows when your fitness is improving, that would be a nice bit of encouragement. The smart coaching feature sounds helpful too. Thank you for sharing!

I absolutely love the RC3 GPS Sports Watch! I’m a runner, and sometimes it’s tough to make sure you are pacing yourself so you can run long distances. If I have a moniter to make sure I’m staying at a steady heart rate, I’d be able to maintain my pace a lot longer!

I’d love to have the FA20 which measures the impact 24/7 of your daily activities. I think I get more exercise than I realize just chasing a 4 year old around. I’d love to see how much it adds up to and then know how much actual “exercise” I still need to do 🙂

Love the CS300 monitor for cycling! I’ve recently started to incorporate stationary cycling into my workouts becuase it feels like I burn a lot more calories on it. This would be wonderful in helping my measure not only my heart rate but also the amount of calories I am burning and will keep me motivated to finish the entire hour long workout!

I love that it’s a mobile heart rate monitor so that you can watch and make sure you are staying within your target heart rate (not too slow, not too fast….I would use it to lose weight!). My husband would probably steal it though. 🙁

Was there any other color to pick if they had pink?! Way to keep up your workout routine when pregnant. I had to stop running at about 5 months with Charlie. It was a bummer. I’m still not back to my best times and he’s 5 months old. I’ve sort of had to adapt and do other stuff in the meantime too.

I have a Polar HRM. Haven’t used it much lately because my personal trainer said I was using it as a crutch instead of a tool. Agreed. I took it off and quit freaking out about what my heart rate got up to. But I miss the details and being able to look back at a workout and see what my heart rate did so I’ve considered wearing it again. However, given the choice of a new one, I would opt for one with GPS. Everyone swears by their iPhone app (I’ve tried several) but even running side by side with my husband running the same app, our numbers never match. Drives me crazy. I want a watch with GPS. With training features and a HRM would be a bonus. RC3 GPS or FT80!
