no-bake protein powerballs :: making an old favorite even healthier

disclaimer no giveaway
My family has been eating these power balls for about 10 years. Yes, 10! They are a staple for after school snacks, summer picnics and a quick recovery after sports. I just found a new product to take the place of the plain oats I’ve been using. Homestat Farm now has Organic Steel Cut Oats and Chia with Flax and Rye Flakes. So instead of just oatmeal, I am adding in extra Omega-3, fiber and vitamins. And Homestat Farm is certified organic so I know I’m getting the best I can!

Without further adieu, here is the recipe. I am sharing an allergen-free recipe with you–feel free to change it up as you see fit.

Ingredients – 1 1/2 cup Homestat Farm Organic Steel Cut Oats and Chia, 1/2 cup sunflower seed butter, 1/2 cup honey, 1/4 cup ground flax seed, 1 cup “mix-ins” (I used mini chocolate chips in this version.  I typically use a variety of dried fruit but my son put in a special chocolate chip request).  ***You may need to alter the amount of honey and seed butter slightly depending on brand and consistency.  I find some seed butters to be much thicker than others so I add a bit more honey to that.  As long as you can roll it into balls, it’s fine!

Mix the honey and seed butter until smooth.  Add oats and flax and mix until consistent throughout.  Add your “mix-ins”.  Roll into balls (this can get a little messy.  A tip is to spray your hands with oil to keep the power balls from sticking).  Refrigerate until they firm up a bit.  Enjoy!

I have been making a variation of these balls for a few years. I have never made them with steel cut oats. I will need to try this. I typically use regular oatmeal. I also add chia seeds to mine, and cocoa nibs instead of chocolate chips. It is the perfect treat when I need a little snack before a workout.

Yes, sounds very similar. This was my first time making them with the steel cut oats/chia blend from Homestat Farms and it was a hit!
