While my 5-year-old has enjoyed playing with the traditional sets of big kid building blocks found out there (firetrucks, pirate ships, etc.) she has been EXTREMELY excited to see the new lines of girl-centric building blocks.
When she’s playing with sets like the Mega Bloks® Barbie® Build ‘n Style Pet Shop I see her using her imagination much more similarly to how she does in her everyday play with her sister. This seems to catch her attention for longer periods of time and this means longer bouts of quiet play time.
We didn’t even have to open the box for Miss M to fall in love with all the details found in this building set. The cute animals, pink ‘girlie’ colors, and changes of outfit for Mega Bloks® Barbie® had her exclaiming “I love it so much!” the first time she got to play.

Even better? The building block set Miss M had received for her birthday that had been from another brand (you know what one I’m talking about) is the same sized blocks and works with this set!
All parents jokingly complain about the “wordsIcannotsayinfrontofmychildren, did I just step on that?!?” building block stage, but those little pieces of plastic are an important part of being a kid. Not only are they a great way to exercise imaginations, they help develop fine motor skills.
