life with a cpap

For years I have been dealing with health issues that’s the main reason I have been struggling with my weight. I have been seeing a sleep doctor for sometime now, but this is the first week that I have been able to sleep through the night using my CPAP.  The doctor I have been seeing has allowed me to borrow a machine to see if I suffer from sleep apnea.  I did have a sleep study and it did not show that I had sleep apnea, but my husband and all three of my children have been diagnosed with sleep apnea.  The children have had surgery to correct their sleep apnea, but my husband has chosen to sleep with a mouth piece instead of altering his voice by having surgery.

CPAP

No the mask is not pleasant, but you do get used to wearing it.  If you suffer from sleep apnea you know what it is like wearing this mask unless surgery was able to correct it.  What is sleep apnea? Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night’s sleep, you might have sleep apnea. The main types of sleep apnea are: Obstructive sleep apnea, the more common form that occurs when throat muscles relax.

Common symptoms of sleep apnea include:
  • Loud or frequent snoring
  • Silent pauses in breathing
  • Choking or gasping sounds
  • Daytime sleepiness or fatigue
  • Unrefreshing sleep
  • Insomnia
  • Morning headaches
  • Nocturia (waking during the night to go to the bathroom

I go back to the sleep doctor at the end of July and I will give everyone an update as to what my diagnosis is.
