home alone again :: review

home aloneWhen “Home Alone” first came out, I was smack-dab in the middle of their target market age. My brother and I laughed and laughed at all the wild and crazy antics and I remember my mom reminding us that we couldn’t recreate what we’d seen Kevin McCallister do. Fast forward twenty-something years and I’m watching “Home Alone: The Holiday Heist” with my kids and reminding them that they can’t recreate what they see Finn Baxter do.

Home Alone: The Holiday Heist” is as silly and outrageous as the “Home Alone” my brother and I watched back then. This movie might not be life-changing drama, but it is certainly a laugh-maker. The sling-shot shooting, booby-trap setting ten year old designs crazy but effective ways to capture the thieves. The burglar characters are almost cartoonish and a bit over-acted, but my kids ate it up. And the whole movie isn’t just fluff. There were some really great themes in the movie about creativity and family and giving to others.

I’m glad I had a chance to introduce my kids to an “updated version” of a movie I loved as a kid. We had a good laugh together while we watched it and listening to my kids tell my husband about it was a riot. I’m not sure he caught all that they said (because they were laughing so hard) but he knows something about marbles hitting one robber, one robber getting hit in the face with a reindeer, and another robber being covered with white goop. Good times, great giggles. And I count that as a win at my house!

    This one is OK – I still like the ones with Kevin best.

    Home alone is still my favorite holiday movie, well running a tie with A Christmas Story. I still dream of being that child and setting booby traps! The first two were so good. Didn’t care for the third installment , but would be interested interested in seeing this especially since a girl stars this time. I even had the TalkBoy growing up. Glad your kids loved it, but show them the first one too.
