My kids are in full-on countdown mode! Every morning they check the calendar…”5 weeks and 2 days left, mom!”

Don’t misunderstand, they actually love school and I know they’ll be sad when that last day does finally come. But they are also really excited about Summer Vacation, too.

Of course, as the mom, I know that excitement will quickly fade and they’ll be turning to me for ideas of what they can do now. I should clarify and tell you that I do not hold the roll of “Summer Vacation Activities Director” for my kids. I’m 100% ok with them experiencing boredom because I know that it can help foster creativity, imagination and problem solving in kids. But I also like to have a few ideas up my sleeves, especially on those rainy summer days!

One of my favorite tricks (and an instant favorite of the kids) is subscriptions! We’ve done monthly subscription boxes, book of the month clubs, magazines, etc. There is just something about receiving a “surprise” in the mail!

This year we’ll be doing a subscription with Zoobooks for my son. He just turned 6 and loves everything animals and dinosaurs. Not just made-up stories about them but really learning about them. Their eating habits, how they hunt, what makes them unique from other animals. He devours that stuff! And that’s what Zoobooks Magazine is all about!

I’m pretty sure our whole family will be experts on these animals and dinosaurs by the time he’s done with us! Of course none of us mind; his excitement about each and every fact and story makes it hard not to get equally as excited 😉
