frugal fall decor inspiration :: mint, buffalo check, pumpkins

Here’s the thing, I love to decorate our house, but it’s from 1985 – complete with popcorn ceilings. It’s not old enough to have character or vintage vibes, but not new enough to look clean and neat. While we’ve improved some aspects of our home (kitchen & living room), there’s a lot spaces that need updating. Our garage door was broken for 10 years and we just got it fixed. We have a slow list of prioritized projects we are working through. Adulting requires patience, but it’s worth it when you aren’t drowning in debt. That’s a topic for another post.

Sometimes I see the picture-perfect Instagram accounts and feel like I have no business sharing my average mantel. I got to thinking that average means most common. So MOST of us are probably average. We can be inspired by the beautiful social media accounts and then do our best to make a version of it that makes our home cozy and welcoming.

DIY Fall painted foam pumpkins. From Dollar Tree and Walmart orange to a beuatiful farmhouse blue and green. Paired with buffalo check pumpkins for the perfect Farmhouse fall look. Easy and quick DIY

My mantel was inspired by THIS post. I liked the color scheme, textures, buffalo print, greenery, etc. I set to work with what I had to make my own version of these schemes. I love what this blog says too: Inspiring and teaching you how to decorate with confidence and love your home. She totally did that for me!

I have to hang my head and admit I bought my FALL centerpiece from Hobby Lobby, but Shay totally showed us how to make our own in this post. Hobby Lobby had a row of all kinds of pumpkins on sticks. I grabbed a few shapes and colors. Two of the orange ones were painted my favorite mint/blue/sage color. It was leftover paint from our front door.

Buffalo check is creeping in on our home. I found ribbon for 50% off at Hobby Lobby. It’s was a weird almost vinyl material. I cut the ribbon in half and wrapped it around two candles and used the remainder for a runner of sorts. It gave me the pop of buffalo check I was looking for. I would love to find a buffalo check pumpkin, but I haven’t just yet.

up+up

Don’t forget to grab UP+UP tissue boxes from Target to compliment your fall vibes. It’s little things like this that make me smile. I also gave our wreath (DIY tutorial HERE) some fall berries and flowers for the season. I like to try to use what I have on hand, but I’m not opposed to adding a new décor item here and there.

seasonal wreath update

While I know our home isn’t the fanciest, it’s ours and we love it. I hope this post inspires you to be content with your space, inspired to add some fall feels, and ideas to inexpensively decorate. Don’t be afraid to paint a foam pumpkin. Don’t be overwhelmed by the perfect posts, just grab inspiration for your space and run with it.

Here are my favorite HOME DECOR accounts that I follow:

The first one is home décor, but the best mom stories imaginable! Jennifer Todryk is probably the funniest person on the planet. Every single day I laugh out loud watching her stories. She just finished filming an HGTV show and I’m so happy she’s been discovered. She’s going to be great TV!

I’d have another Mike keeps playing the “I’m old” and “I’d like to retire before I die” cards Growing up I always said I wanted four kids… then I had kids and said two was good enough then Vivi was the BEST bonus baby ever and now in the thick of quite possibly the busiest season of my life I feel like I could totally throw another baby beast into the mix and be cool. I mean, we’d never leave the house but I’m a homebody now, so that’s fine. Who needs sunlight? Not I. I’d just be a stay at home mom who has the skin tone of printing paper, who never leaves the house, posts on Instagram and has conversations with herself all day. I’m not even kidding about the conversations- I never knew that I did this until I started being mic’d for the show I’m filming. I talk to myself non-stop and the audio guy and producer can hear the conversation and it’s pretty embarrassing and I may be mentally unstable but that’s an entirely different post in itself Actually, NO. Let’s discuss this- do you talk to yourself?! Like, a full blown 2-3 person conversation?! IS THIS THE “MOTHER’S ILLNESS”?! Please tell me I’m not alone. *I mean, even if I am alone in this, it’s cool. I’ll just talk to myself. Totes comfortable with it. This post took a crazy turn. #typical . . My next favorite also has some FUN-NY stories. She has these chats from her microwave that tickle my giggle bone. This girl has all the pretty fall vibes going on and I adore her humor, decorating tips, and spunk. Morgan is worth following.

Coming in hot with the house envy on this account. Just kidding, I cling to most of her posts because I love her style. I’ve not been following Carla for long, but she grabbed my attention with her mint door (like I have) and pretty porch.
