finger paint magnets :: mother’s day gift idea

Grandmas are such amazing people!  Both of my grandmas were so very special to me and I am so thankful for all of the fun, sweet memories I have with each of them growing up!  Sleepovers, shopping trips, games, and endless love are a few of the things I remember most!

My kids are both blessed with an amazing nana and grandma as well!  Both of them are people who invest time and love in every way, and my kids just adore them both!  Mother’s Day is a great day for the kids to show them a little love too!!

This year we decided to make some magnets for their refrigerators since both of them seem to have pictures of and from the grandkids on there anyway!  The kids had so much fun using their fingers to paint these fun little pictures, and I know they will feel so proud to give a gift that they made! Here’s how we made them!

Materials:

Paint (finger paints or really any paints you have. Stamp pads work too!)

White cardstock

Clear drying glue

Round magnets

Clear glass beads

Fine tip Sharpie

Circle punch (or pencil and small scissors)

First, have your kids use their fingers to dip into the paint to make small finger prints on the paper!  We had fun with this!  I let them choose colors and make their finger prints all over their own page!  We saved small square papers for the ones we would use for our magnets!  They loved using all the different colors and coming up with ideas to make out of them!

Let the paint dry.  This shouldn’t take long, and the kids will have fun continuing to paint their other papers during this time!

After the paint is dry, use a black marker or pen to draw on your fingerprints.  My kids are small so I helped them with this part.  The pictures are really small so it’s hard for little ones to draw in these spaces, but older kids will enjoy helping with this step too!

Use a small circle punch and cut each design out.  (If you don’t have a circle punch, place the magnet over the picture and trace a circle.  Then use scissors to cut out circle.)

Using clear glue, paint a thin layer of glue on the back of the clear glass bead, and stick to your fingerprint design.  Let dry for about 5 minutes.  Paint a thin layer of glue on to the magnet and stick the bead/paper to it.  Allow to dry overnight.

We love the way these simple magnets came out and the kids are so excited to wrap them up and give to Nana and Grandma for Mother’s Day!
