disney on ice {bay area} dream big :: show recap :: coupon code

We saw the Disney on Ice show last night and it was an experience of a lifetime for a few reasons. 🙂 Dream Big is officially my favorite of the Disney on Ice shows that I have seen. I’m so glad it was such a wonderful show because we went way out of our comfort zone to get there, but it was worth it.
parking
We didn’t know it until the day of the show, but the big Thursday night football game was being held and televised in Oakland. The Raider’s were playing and they share a parking lot with the Disney on Ice venue. We arrived to misty Oakland an hour early and still had to park over a mile away in a field and walk. It really was fabulous people watching, but I had a death grip on the kids and I was suspicious of every single person that wasn’t carrying a cute little girl in a princess dress. It was a hilarious mix of Raider’s fans and Disney princesses, but we all were excited about our evening of fun. It was one of my most authentic California experiences to date.

Moral of the story: research the parking situation before you attend an event. Be prepared with enough cash too. Beware of Raider’s games. 🙂 (Won’t be an issue if you attend the rest of the shows this weekend.)

On with the review of the show, even though I could write a second recap of our parking lot experiences alone. 🙂 This show is certainly geared for girls that love princesses. I’m sure my boys would have been entertained, but we took my daughter and a friend. My husband was a great sport and came along too. He serenaded us the entire show. He has an impressive repertoire of Disney lyrics he knows. We all had fun together. I had a friend ask me what the recommended ages for the kids would be. Honestly, I think any girl of any age would love it.
Disney on Ice Memories
The lights, costumes, music, and special effects were impressive. Each act held it’s own unique intrigue. Cinderella had skates that looked like glittery glass slippers. Her wicked step sisters were very humorous and added lots of laughs to the show. Aurora had the most beautiful pink dress I’ve ever seen. There was a very intense dragon scene (but not too scary) with real fire on the ice. Of course there were the crowd favorites such as Elsa and Anna too. There were bubbles with Ariel’s grotto and snow fell on Arendale. We walked away from the show with huge smiles, happy hearts, and Disney songs in our heads.

Quick tips: If your budget is tight, I suggest eating before the show. I like to tell our kids that their experience is the show, not the toys with impressive lights, sounds, and prices. It’s also nice to know that strollers and back packs aren’t allowed in the venue. Give yourself enough time to get through security too.
