It’s been twenty years since I’ve visited the church from my childhood but I can still describe to you every single detail of how it was decorated for Christmas every single year. Just thinking about it, I can even smell the oranges the ladies from the church placed in the goodie bags they gave to each of us kids as we left the Christmas Eve service.
And then, walking home (our church was just a few doors down from us) and finding our house filled with family, presents, and platters of food; all ready for our Christmas celebration. I cherish those memories.
While the memories and traditions we’re making with our own kids are a bit different from those of my childhood, I still hope that they are ones that my kids will hold on to for years and years.

The Christmas Eve Box 🙂 When Santa/Elves leave a box at some point on Christmas Eve with new pajamas, hot cocoa and a Christmas story, movie, or activity. So magical!

My siblings all do a white elephant gift exchange when we get together on Christmas Eve, it gets pretty funny.

My favorite holiday tradition for the past 20 years is Christmas eve at my house with my parents, leg of lamb and homemade cream puffs that was my Great Grandmothers recipe.

We go to my parent’s house for Christmas. We watch the kids open gifts, have a nice dinner and then go out driving around looking at Christmas lights.
My favorite traditions center around the food! My Grandma’s cornbread stuffing or apple stack cake & rum cake are all things that we still make at Christmas.
