“blink of an eye” by frances england, indie music for families :: music review

With all of the amazing family-music-centered artists out there, it is increasingly difficult to choose a favorite… however, Frances England is racing to the top of my list.

Her new album Blink of an Eye, due out August 6th, is just superb. I can’t even call this music for kids, because it has been living in my CD player in my car, and I listen to it even when my kiddo isn’t in the car. This is super parent-friendly music. Check out the trailer:

Literally, within just a few seconds of listening to the title track, I knew I was going to love this album.

I honestly can’t choose a favorite song, because I love them all. But I suppose if I had to choose one (ok, two), “Salt Water Spin” and “Look How the Light Dances With Trees” seem to creep up to the forefront. I love this album.

The album features Elizabeth Mitchell (one of my all-time favorites), Molly Ledford of Lunch Money, Morgan Taylor of Gustafer Yellowgold, and Chris Ballew of Caspar Babypants (and the Presidents of the United States of America).

England’s acoustic music has a soft, calming, friendly indie feel, with a touch of nostalgia for good measure. England’s lyrics are thoughtful and sweet, with a great deal of depth and texture. Her melodies are catchy and her voice is sweet and reminiscent of Elizabeth Mitchell or Lisa Loeb. Her music wraps around me like a soft, warm breeze, and makes me picture myself laying on a blanket in the grass, blowing the seeds off of a dandelion and watching twinkles of sun shining through the leaves of a tree. This will be the soundtrack of our summer.
