be frugal, not cheap :: $5 gift idea

In today’s economy many of us have had to adjust and be creative with our finances. I’ve gone through a few strategies when it comes to pinching pennies. I’ve always had a great appreciation for a bargain, but I’ve learned through the years that it’s not a good deal if you have to replace it because it’s too cheap. Towels are my topic today. Chincy towels will fray, fade, and wear out quickly. Walk away from the dollar bins when you see those cute print dish towels and read on…

Most people appreciate a gift they can use and enjoy. I’m all about being practical. I like to give kitchen towels with Bath and Body Works hand soap as gifts. This idea works for your girlfriend’s birthday, Mother’s day, a house warming gift, a prize at a shower, a thank-you, a Christmas gift, etc.

Be creative with your presentation as well and tie up the towels with cute ribbon and tuck in the hand soap. I’m NOT super crafty, but I was able to put this towel cake together for a wedding shower gift. Tutorial I followed HERE.

I have found the best deal for cute and well-made kitchen towels can be found at Costco (10 pack for under $12) or use those coupons for 20% off that you get in your mailbox from Bed Bath and Beyond if you don’t have a Costco membership. I also like to stock up on Bath and Body Works hand soap during their semi-annual sales. My “buy price” is under $3 per bottle. I rarely have less than 10 bottles of hand soap in my stock pile for our own use and gifts.

I split up my 10 pack of towels (and yes I typically keep 2 for myself) and I have 4 gifts ready to go when I need a quick and practical gift idea. To my friends reading this post…please don’t be offended I only spent $5 on your birthday gift. I love you more than that, I promise.

Be frugal, not cheap. It’s as SIMPLE as that.

Did you get the patterned towels at Costco or the solid colored ones? Cute idea! Thanks!

All of them were from Costco. You can kind of see in the second picture they are still in the plastic wrap. It’s a 10 pack for 11.97 at Costco right now. They almost always have dish towels, but these were especially cute. So I give one patterned and 1 solid color when I gift them.

      Thanks for asking Dawn! 🙂

I’m “creative” with money, but not when it comes to making things. If I can do this, anybody can. That’s what’s so great about this gift idea. It’s easy, you can keep it on hand, and best of all it’s affordable.

Thanks for suggesting I post more things like this! 🙂 You got my wheels turning Renee.
