#aSIMPLEchristmas :: christmas stories from sleeping bear press :: review + giveaway

Have yourself a Merry SIMPLE Christmas

Sleeping Bear Press logoAs far as my children are concerned this year Christmas cannot come fast enough. While I’m still making them hold off on a full on Christmas extravaganza we are slowly easing our way into the season with the occasional bought of Christmas music, a movie, or Christmas-themed books.

Today I’m excited to share a couple new releases from our friends at Sleeping Bear Press that are a fun way to enjoy the Christmas season with the kiddos. It was quite a while back when I shared Memoirs of a Hamster with our readers, and I’m super excited to say that the same author/illustrator team of Devin Scillian and Tim Bowers are back with a new installment in their Memoirs series!

Memoirs of an Elf coverThis time in Memoirs of an Elf, you get to tag along with Spark Elf as this tech-y assistant to Santa does his job on Christmas Eve. Keeping the Big Guy on schedule as he delivers gifts to the children of the world isn’t easy! Without a doubt this story was a hit with the kids and I’m sure to have the kids repeating the included little-known facts that impart important knowledge about Santa and his crew. Most importantly though, this book has a good message about how Christmas can still happen without Santa and that there are more important things to the holiday. All-in-all, a good fun read for the kids with a great reminder for everyone during a season when it’s all to easy for them to get caught up in a case of the “I wants.”

A Cookie for Santa coverNext up I is another fun book with a Santa theme as well. In A Cookie for Santa by Stephanie Shaw and illustrated by Bruno Robert, we are introduced to a quick thinking gingerbread boy cookie. Yep, this little confection rushes to the rescue while waiting for Santa to arrive and enjoy him with some milk! If your kids like puppies, or you have a mischievous dog of your own, this is a fun read as we watch Santa recognize the potential in this little cookie as the gingerbread boy pitches in and helps Santa clean up after a pair of puppies. Another plus, this story is a fun twist on the classic “The Night Before Christmas,” and the story is in rhyme!

Another couple of great holiday releases from Sleeping Bear Press for everyone to add to this year’s Christmas book countdown!
