a summer sun solution :: the original sunscreen :: giveaway

disclaimer giveaway
I am always looking for solutions to life’s little problems. You know, the kind that aren’t significant but add moments of frustration or inconvenience. The summer sun is so wonderful – I’m a desert girl at heart – but it does create its own set of problems! I recently heard about The Original Sunscreen and decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it solves a few pesky problems that I’ve encountered.

shadeondrink
1. I like to sit outside and synthesize Vitamin D, but my drink melts in (approximately) 5 seconds, my phone becomes too hot to touch which can’t possibly be good for it, and my lip balm gets soupy. I grew up in Arizona, so I am no stranger to sun and heat damage. However, I clipped this little shade on our outdoor patio table to cover my items and my problem was solved. I love the view from our balcony, so I’m out there a lot!

strollershade2. It works well clipped to a stroller. Our stroller has a built in sun shade, but if we are walking into the sun, it’s completely ineffective. While out on a walk with my son, I clipped the screen to the side of the stroller and adjusted to block the sun from his eyes. It looks like an alien appendage, but believe me, he is much happier when he isn’t being blinded. Parenting win.

3. It makes a great adjustable car window shade. Our infant car seat has a sun shade, but our convertible car seat does not. Even with the built in shade on the infant carrier, it doesn’t always block the sun depending on the time of day and the direction we’re driving. This shade can be easily adjusted to shade baby’s face. We are planning a road trip this summer to visit several national parks (Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons…so excited!) and my husband and I thought about getting a traditional window shade for the back seat. However, we think this might work even better, since it can easily be moved and adjusted as needed.

I have seen other uses advertised for this as well. You could clip it to a camping chair at a sporting event or a lawn chair at the beach. We’re definitely planning to take this versatile little shade with us in the car on our road trip so that it’s available whenever we need it…just in time for summer!

My sons are all adults now. When they were little I was a worrier but now it is worse because I don’t have the control over their bigger problems of adulthood. It had made me turn to my faith more than ever and to realize allowing them to live their own lives is what God has planned for them.

I have a problem corralling loose clothes hangers and having them at the laundry area when I need them. The hubby wire hangers only and I prefer anything but wire. I’ve ordered a commercial floor standing rack where we can put the hangers on to move from bedroom to laundry.

My husband is my solution magician! Yesterday, I had a picture frame that the little silver pieces on the back that hold the picture in place in the frame had come off of. He had the idea to use the staple gun to put staples sticking out of the back of the frame and then press them down on the back of the picture area, so it holds in place.

Right now some of the little problems is my son deciding that it is more fun to smear the food on his face than putting it in his mouth. I am trying to solve it by showing him how good things are by eating them myself . He follows my lead but then he decides it is time to feed his face again!

My issue is organization, I have a terrible time organizing things in my house. My teenager is actually helping me with this, since she likes that type of stuff, and together we are getting rid of things we no longer want, need or use and organizing what we do want so we can find it easier. We have purchased some baskets, drawer organizers and other things to help us along the way and it’s made a big difference so far.

One of my favorite solutions was to put a shower curtain rod IN the shower, lengthwise. I then hung S-hooks on it and hung baskets from those. Now those baskets hold all our shampoos, conditioners, body washes, shavers and everything else we need and use in the shower…nice and neat!

yes there are lots of little problems in day to day life. Some I’ve come up with solutions for, but don’t have the money to spend on it! One problem I had, was my husband’s coffee comes in a bag, and every time he measured some into the coffee maker, some would spill on the counter, and the bag was annoying. I ended up putting a bag’s worth into a large mason jar with a reuseable screw-top lid, and attaching the measuring spoon on the side. Now it looks tidy and no mess.
