a simple solution for bedtime with smart bulb :: review + giveaway

smart bulbFor our family bedtime means books. We’re all readers and I love that. What I don’t love is how “just one story” can quickly become “just one more story”. It’s great that they want to read but we do eventually need to go to sleep. Well, the folks at Smart Electric have the solution we needed! And it’s a pretty good bet to say that it’s a solution that could help at your house, too! A light bulb with a timer!

Smart Electric has a variety of “smart” bulbs. There are some that can flash to attract attention, some that turn themselves off (and on!), and some that dim. That last category is what I’m sharing about today. The Good Night Dimmer Smart Bulb has a teeny tiny computer chip in it that makes the bulb dim over the course of several minutes (once activated). Turn on the light once to use it as a standard bulb, but flip it a second time to activate it’s super powers! When you do that, it starts out like a normal light and over the next 20 minutes it dims to night light level.

smart bulbWhen bedtime begins, we turn on the light. After that, you have until the light dims enough that you can’t read the words easily. Then it’s time to close your eyes and dream. You can see in this picture that at the beginning of bedtime it was bright enough to light most of the room. The second picture is after about 15 minutes – just barely bright enough to finish the chapter (because there’s always a chapter to finish up)!

Thanks to this bulb, bedtime has been going much more smoothly and has required a lot less nagging reminding that it’s sleepy time. That’s worth a mint, right there!

My kids start getting ready for bed at the same time every night. One brushes teeth while the other gets jammies on. Then they switch. After that it’s time to read for 20 minutes (part of their daily homework). Then it’s lights out!

We tend to read for about half an hour after we go to bed…but I have a bad habit of staying up much later. This would really help me get sleepy and ready to lie down.

Now that the kids are older, we don’t really have any routines. But, when they were younger they absolutely couldn’t go to be without a story (or two or three or four…)

I have a very hard time going to sleep. I usually have to read a long time to help me go to sleep. I usually fall asleep with the light and/or lamp on. The Smart Bulb would be perfect for nights like that. Great innovation.
