a simple real food recipe :: crockpot apple oatmeal

One thing I always try to have my kids do is eat a good breakfast.  For years, I mean like 5 years straight my son ate his oatmeal mixed with yogurt and frozen berries for breakfast.  HE loves it and I got my daughter hooked on it too.  It keeps them full and it is good for you.

I wanted to try and mix up the oatmeal recipe for them and try something new.

Here is what I tried and they loved it.  And actually I loved it too.

I put butter on the inside of the crockpot and then added the following ingredients… cooking on low for 8 hours. This may vary depending on your crockpot:

1 cup of Organic Steel Cut oats, you can use Gluten Free ones too
4 organic apples peeled, cored, and cut into small cubes
1 1/2 cups waterappleoatmeal1
1 1/2 cups of  milk (I used the Hilhof brand of milk because it is not ULP)
4 TBSP. butter, cut into small chunks (again I used Mooville butter)
1 1/2 tsp. ground organic cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground organic nutmeg
4 TBSP organic coconut sugar
Dash of salt

Stir and cover, cooking overnight until done. You could also top with raisins, nuts, or anything else you like to put on oatmeal.

Could you use old fashioned oats instead of steel cut oats?
