a simple craft :: thanksgiving turkey

The kiddos seem to grow up so fast!  Even though it may seem chaotic and difficult while you are in the thick of it (i.e.the pre-school years)!   I am beyond thankful that I am able to spend these precious days with them.  Last thanksgiving I grabbed their chubby little bare feet, stuck them in some paint, and put together this simple little turkey craft.

My inspiration for these little birds came from these adorable hand print turkeys .  I loved the colorful little “feathers” made from the kiddos hands, so I used that idea, then added their footprints as bodies too.  For stability, I cut out the footprints and glued them onto some heavier cardstock.  The beak, feet, and flappy thing (would that be the gizzard??) were cut free hand out of construction paper.  Just glue on the body parts, add some googly eyes, and you have yourself a Thanksgiving Turkey!

Here are some other adorable ideas you could try!

I love the “ombre” effect of the feathers.  This would be a great craft for the older kids who are better at sitting still.  How cute would this look framed on a table or shelf?

We all tend to get impatient waiting for  Thanksgiving dinner to be served…how about making these adorable turkeys as place settings?  I think this would keep the kiddos busy for a few minutes!

How about bringing the kids outdoors to help collect leaves from the yard?  I love this little guy with the natural elements!

While I adore these crafts for their pure cuteness, I think this is such a great way for us to engage our children in discussions about Thankfulness.  How are you encouraging your children to live a life of gratitude?
