Do you have a little foodie in your house? Or maybe you have a child who eats nothing but chicken nuggets and pizza. Either way, the Phoebe G. Green books are going to be fun reads for them. In the first book, a new girl from France moves to Phoebe’s school and she notices that her lunch doesn’t look at all like Camille’s. Camille and her family introduce Phoebe to a whole new world of food – goat cheese, butter lettuce, duck! Who knew you could eat duck? 😉 Although Phoebe loves her new friend and is really enjoying the new experiences that the friendship brings, she also struggles with not knowing exactly how to balance friendship between Camille and her forever friend, Sage.
In the second book, the three friends take a trip to the farm with their class. They get to collect eggs, pick apples and spinach, and then make a salad and some applesauce from their harvest. As the field trip comes to an end, Phoebe and Sage decide that the goats maybekindasorta need a little exercise. So they open up the gate and let the goats run free. Oops! A fun field trip quickly turns into a wild adventure and the two learn a very important lesson about farm animals and telling the truth.
I love that these books are about food, fun and friendship – some of my favorite things. It’s great to see characters that are good examples on how to be friends and how to navigate the sometimes tricky waters of friendship. And I know that the little foodies will love hearing all about the great “new” foods! You might even find out that your picky eater may just branch out a little, like Phoebe G.
