wacky september holidays to chase away the back-to-school blues

With Back-to-School season in full swing I thought it would be fun to give everyone a few silly reasons to celebrate this September. Halloween is pretty far off still and while I LOVE autumn I know that the return of a school schedule tends to make my kids cranky (yes, even homeschooled kids get cranky about school work). In an effort to chase away the back-to-school blues we will be making sure to do something special on these September dates…

This one is EASY for any person with children.

September 5 Be Late for Something Day on The SIMPLE Moms

Start a new book with the kids, read them an old favorite, or pick up a new book that you know they will love and have family story time.

September 6 National Read a Book Day on the SIMPLE moms

I don’t know about you but if I tell my kids they have to play video games to celebrate a holiday I’m sure to make their day.

September 19 National Video Games Day on the SIMPLE moms

Send a pirate themed note in their lunch that day, speak only like a pirate during dinner, or even watch a fun pirate movie. Extra points if you do a fun pirate themed craft or wear an eyepatch.

September 19 Talk Like A Pirate Day on The SIMPLE Moms

As someone who comes from a family of apple farmers and lives on an apple farm I find celebrating this day VERY easy. However, you don’t have to go pick your own apples or plant a tree to celebrate this day. Eat an apple themed dessert, read about the story of Johnny Appleseed, or watch the 1948 Johnny Appleseed movie from Disney (total classic).

Bake some cookies, have a pizza party, help rake your elderly neighbor’s yard… the possibilities on how to celebrate this day are endless and really will depend on your neighbors.

I hope these silly holidays help give your family some fun days to look forward to as everyone gets back on to a set schedule with school, sports, and all the other fall activities!
