top tips for staying healthy :: back to school edition

As much as I’m trying to deny it, it’s that time of year. Kids are heading back to school and, unfortunately, that means GERMS! On top of the many, many reasons I love summer, we are rarely sick when we spend our time outdoors! Here are a few of my tips for staying healthy when germs seem to be everywhere.

Wash Hands. While this may be a no-brainer, washing hands is probably the easiest way to keep the germs away! We try to make it a habit to wash hands any time we go to the bathroom (obviously), any time we’re going to eat and as soon as the kids get home from school. My kids know they come in, set their backpacks down and head straight to wash hands.

Supplements.  I’ve been using supplements from NativOrganics lately and they have three products that are especially helpful when trying to stay healthy.  Turmeric has been a health food darling for quite a while now with its natural detoxifying properties.  Paired with Curcumin, it’s a power antioxidant and NativOrganics makes it easy by putting these together in one capsuleBeeHealthy is a formula of bee pollen to support the immune system and promote energy production (yes, please!) and ImmuneMax uses all organic ingredients from fruits, herbs, roots and seeds to help the body heal itself.

A Healthy Diet. I love to start my day with a smoothie.  Every day I pack my blender with organic greens, fruit, chia seeds and a green juice blend.  I love knowing that I’m getting in a few servings of fruits and veggies right away.  It’s hard to get enough good stuff in your diet and a smoothie is by far the easiest way to pack in lots of nutrition.  I also make sure to have easy hand held fruits and vegetables on hand so my kids can grab a quick healthy snack.

Rest.  I know it’s hard to get enough sleep as a busy mom.  Especially if you still have kids who wake up in the night.  But your body is working hard to heal while you sleep!  Things like setting a bedtime alarm and turning off the wifi on my phone at night has helped keep me from staying up late due to time-wasting distractions.

Treat When Needed.  When I feel less than my best, I do what I can to treat it right away, ideally naturally.  NativOrganics has supplements to help things like body aches, joint pain and a sour stomach.  I find that treating with natural ingredients reduces those unwanted side effects.  And with all of the research on conventional weed killers and other toxins found in common pantry items, I feel better knowing that NativOrganics is USDA certified organic.

Oh Gina, why have I never thought to turn the wifi off on myself? I am terrible about staying up too late surfing the web!

We are big on the hand washing too. It’s amazing how much healthier we stay!

I am the worst about that! The biggest time waster and definitely cuts in on my sleep time!
