the renovation project begins

disclaimer no giveaway
My renovation project has begun as I take down my cabinet doors to prepare them to be painted.  The plan is to have the upper cabinets painted before the countertops are put in.  I found my hardware at Build.com and I am really excited to see how great it all looks when I have finished both the top and bottom cabinets.

By only painting the top cabinet doors I don’t have to worry about  my lower cabinets getting messed up when the old countertop is removed.  It depends on the type of paint you use, but I always sand down my surface before I paint even if you are using chalk paint.  First thing I did was take down the first section of doors and sanded them with my orbital sander.  I began by painting the back of the doors first and then painted the front.  By painting the back first I will keep from messing up the front of the doors, and it has been years since these cabinet doors have seen a fresh coat of paint.  I’m rolling the paint on the doors to keep from having brush marks.  Then I will lightly sand the doors since I am using chalk paint.

I like to make sure that the all previous paint jobs have been sanded away so that when I add the fresh coat of paint I don’t end up with areas where the paint pools.   After the front of the cabinets dry I will be able to add stain to all the crevices.  This is the way I antique my wooden furniture, I add Jacobean to my white and then wipe it away.

You can go back into your wood and add highlights with the paint once your stain dries.  Then once the doors were dry I added my beautiful hardware from Build.com.  I have selected their Build Essentials 3″ Center to Center Bar Cabinet Pull.  This is a modern hardware that will bring new life to my kitchen cabinets.  I had to have a total of 31  bar cabinet pulls and thankfully Build.com offers professionals exclusive pricing on the best selection of product, with stock you can depend on.
