MOLECULE-R :: molecular gastronomy kits

It’s not very often that as adults we get to play with our food, but that’s what I’ve been doing thanks to the CUISINE R-EVOLUTION molecular gastronomy kit from MOLECULE-R.

“Ummm… what exactly is molecular gastronomy?” you ask.  Molecular gastronomy can be defined as the fusion of food science and culinary arts. New technologies and natural texturing agents can now be used to deconstruct any dishes and cocktails, enabling one to serve mojito bubbles and martini bites, as well as balsamic vinegar pearls and chocolate spaghettis.

After reading that description on the MOLECULE-R website and watching the above video I immediately thought of Iron Chef America.  I was going to get to try some of those cool techniques I’d only seen on TV?  AWESOME!

As excited as I was, I will admit that I was also a bit intimidated that the recipes would be both time and labor intensive to recreate. Plus, this is fancy food and I cook for two preschoolers and a {mostly} meat-and-potatoes husband.  When was I ever going to have an appreciative audience for arugula spaghetti or balsamic vinegar pearls?

I was wrong.  Wrong, wrong, wrong.  While some of the recipes require a bit more time and labor than others, the majority of them seem fairly easy and quick to make.

After watching the video recipes I decided to whip up some strawberry foam.  We had the 4 ingredients needed on hand already and the MOLECULE-R kit came with the necessary additive.  Within minutes I had strawberry foam to top a brownie bite and some vanilla ice cream.  It was delicious, fun, and easy!

The MOLECULE-R kit includes 5 boxes of 10 sachets of each of the following natural additives (agar-agar, sodium alginate, calcium lactate, soy lecithin & xanthan gum, 5 essential tools (slotted spoon, measuring spoons, pipettes, food grade syringe & silicone tubes) and a DVD of 50 recipes.  The DVD can also be inserted into your computer to get a printable copy of all the recipes.
