kings hawaiian rolls :: mini baked ham sandwiches

Did you happen to read THIS post last month where the kids participated in their International Day at school by dressing up as international breads? Kings Hawaiian appreciated our creativity featuring their rolls and they sent us a box of goodies. I was really touched by what a cool company they are!thank you box

We buy King’s Hawaiian rolls in bulk. Costco has the best deal. I throw half the pack in the freezer and they taste fresh and soft when we are ready to thaw and eat them. I use these rolls in a few different ways. Ways that are less crazy then tying them around my 6 year old’s neck and sending him to school. 🙂

  • Rolls with dinner (I know, super inventive)
  • Pulled pork sandwiches on a roll
  • Sloppy Joe’s on a roll
  • Lunch meat and cheese on a roll
  • Slider burgers on a roll
  • Butter with honey on a roll for breakfast (but just in a pinch since that’s not exactly the breakfast of champions)

We are big fans of our Hawaiian rolls. The list above may cue you in to just how many packs of these rolls we eat. We tried a new recipe that they sent us and it was fantastic. Mini Baked Ham Sandwiches will be regular recipe served in our house from now on.

Ingredients

1 pound deli ham shaved

1 pound swiss cheese thinly sliced

1 stick butter

1 1/2 tablespoons dijon mustard

1 1/2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce

1 1/2 teaspoons minced onion dried

1 12-pack KING’S HAWAIIAN Original Hawaiian Sweet Dinner Rolls

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter and mix in mustard, sauce and onion.

Step 2

Cut the entire pack of rolls in half, horizontally (keeping all top and bottom halves separately in tact).

Step 3

In a 9×13 inch pan, place bottom half of rolls and cover with ham and cheese.

Step 4

Cover ham and cheese stacks with top half of rolls.

Step 5

Drizzle butter mixture over top of rolls, making sure onion is evenly distributed.

Step 6

Refrigerate over night.

Step 7

Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes and, once finished, separate for serving.

dinner is ready

The recipe says to refrigerate overnight. I like recipes I can make ahead and have ready to pop in the oven. However, you can also skip that step and bake right away if you can’t wait to dig in. We enjoyed ours and we didn’t put them in the refrigerator overnight. This recipe is great for days I work and we come home hungry and tired. It went together quickly and the whole family enjoyed it.

I’ll give you a sneak peak of our next King’s Hawaiian review. Can’t wait to try this Maui Onion Garlic Hawaiian Butter Spread.
